Re: The Well: Episode 3 - Do you feel lucky?

I will bring up my question fro SB's session.. If you could name one single band or artist you would strongly encourage our generation to investigate, what would that be?

Great question! Hmmmmn. Otis Redding or Aretha Franklin, so young cats can know what soul is.........Music can be simple and melodic, yet be totally amazing. I wish I could play my guitar and have it sound half as good as their voices.

How did you meet your wife?

She walked into a gig I was playing and I saw her immediately. I asked her to dance and the rest is pretty much history.

any plans on making swords?

There would be no money in it, unfortunately. It takes hours and hours to properly forge and temper a blade that would be a functional sword. I don't have any desire to craft one that would be a fake display thing like they sell on the knife shows on cable. They are not true swords.

How did your wife get her start in modeling?

She walked into and agency and got signed for a year. When her contract was up she went freelance. No real mystery or great discovery made by a talent scout or anything.

Own any Hamers?

I only own one very used Stratocaster. I have played Hamers and although they are not my cup of tea, I think they are pretty much the cream of the crop of Gibson style guitars. Beautifully crafted and they sound great.

At 16 how would you rate your guitar playing skill?
How long did you practice a day and what did you practice?
Basically how did you get your band, where did you go for members, how did you decide what music to play?

I didn't start playing until I was about 16 or 17 so I was awful. :)

When I got the bug for playing, I played about 8 or so hours a day, to the extent of absolutely no social life. I didn't have a practice routine...I just played stuff I liked.

As far as members, most of my friends played so we hooked up and got a band together. We played what we thought people would like to hear or dance to.....it is still the way we pick out tunes.

A lot of gay people have children. ;)

Re: The Well: Episode 3 - Do you feel lucky?

I'll steal from my last well question--if you could have one super power what would it be?

Do you have any incomplete lifelong goals?

Surely, there has to be more to it than just asking a beautiful woman to dance...what's the secret?

I would love to have the power to heal....my first trip would be to the children's hospitals.

In my younger years, I suffered from a lack of direction and also from a tendency to ingest alcohol. I liked to play guitar more than going to school and screwed up, as far as a career with a lot of pay. I like the job I have...wish the pay was better.

Most men are afraid of asking a beautiful woman out. You must have confidence without being a self centered jerk. The worst thing that can happen is they say "no".

What's with all the swords? You forge knives or something? Have a few pics or website we (I) can take a look at?

How did you start? What was your first? How was it made? Any tips for anyone starting out?

*Assuming I'm correct*

Do you own your own bus, or are you just a hired hand? Do you give it double duty as a band bus and a camper? Do you drive it on dates?

Luis, I have made knives for quite a while now and customize pocket knives with filework and hand made scales.

I got started after my brother passed away, he was a knifemaker and I was always interested in his creations.

The 1st one I made was a drop point skinning knife. it was made out of a circular saw blade with a burled walnut handle.

There are a lot of good websites and books that will teach you how to craft a blade and handle.

I am working on a knife that started life as a file. I annealed the file to make it softer and I am in the process of shaping the blade.

Shoot me a PM bro if you want more specific info.

Beatles - I Am The walrus
SRV - Lenny
Clapton - Crossroads
Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Beach Boys - 409

A famous guitar?.......Probably Rory's Strat

You're having a cooked breakfast and you have to choose between eggs and bacon... you can only have one of the two, not both... which do you choose?

Eggs......They can be prepareed so many ways. :D

Heights scare the living crap out of me, followed closely by flying in an airplane. I don't know why and don't want to find out/

I drive a school bus Stephen. The band did have a special needs type van that we used to own....fun to take to gigs and the wheelchair lift is a wonderous invention for toting gear.

Re: The Well: Episode 3 - Do you feel lucky?

Good choices, all.

Do you enjoy watching the Antiques Roadshow?

Oh yeah! Cool old stuff that isn't seen everyday.

I was looking around the house recently and foung my Dad's war scrapbook and it is filled with WWII era pinup girls. I would like to get them appraised.

Hamer made, '92-'97 IIRC, a great Strat and Tele. Best $500-$700 you will spend if all original. Here is a threadful from The Hamer Fan Club forum. :fest6:

Loaded stock with cool Duncans too.

Here are my pieces of that pie.

Who was the first guitar player you heard that made your jaw hit the floor in shock and amazement?

Who is your favorite guitar player to listen to?

Re: The Well: Episode 3 - Do you feel lucky?

I'll ask you the same thing I asked Stevie_Bees:

Can you identify one pivotal moment in your life that was the most responsible for shaping the man you are today? If so, what was it?

Jimi Hendrix! I saw him on TV before when I was young and he floored me. He owned the stage and his playing was almost sexual in a way. Jimi for me, is the yardstick to which all rock guitar players are measured.

My favorite to listen to changes on an almost daily basis. :) I would have to say Jeff Beck though, if for nothing else, the sheer volume of killer guitar music he has made over the years. I wish I had chops akin to his.

What is the idea that you value the most in your life?

Why must you make me think so deep? You are going to make sprain whats left of my gray matter....

This will sound weird to most folks I'm sure.....fair play.

I hate a cheat and I also deplore the mistreatment of less priviledged people by the elite. (This was not intended as a political statement.)

Having a child for sure.. It took a long time to understand what it is to be a man....children are where it is at. You can't take money with you to the grave....the only real legacy a man can leave is a child.

What will it say on your headstone?

Devoted Father and husband...anything else put on it would be fluff.

I almost stipulated something like "If you're going to say 'having my kids,' think of something else!" but then thought - hey - if that's his answer, that's his answer.

Re: The Well: Episode 3 - Do you feel lucky?

I told you the questions will get you thinking!!

Joe, when are you at your most content?

When do you most feel like being an utterly irresponsible child??? :D
