Hmm...not sure there is a perfect tone or even a perfect dozen tones. I like all kinds of guitar tones and Im always trying new things and tweking the things I have to get my tone even "better".
I love all different kinds of tones and try to choose an amp/guitar combo based on what I feel works best in the song. FWIW, my benchmark tones are Clapton during his time with the Bluesbreakers and Cream, Jeff Beck, Billy Gibbons.
Now, am I happy with my tone...most of the time yes. I listen to old recordings of myself and I think it's getting better all the time.
