What are your chief weapons?

Our chief weapon is surprise...

surprise and fear...fear and surprise....

Our two weapons are fear and surprise...

and ruthless efficiency....

Our *three* weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...

and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope....

Our *four*...no...

*Amongst* our weapons....

Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise....

:banghead: I'll come in again.

What's the loudest concert you've been to?

Hrmmm...Gotta be either Iron Maiden or The Scorpions- both super clear loud though. Ozzy was wicked loud too both times I saw him. So was Van Halen, but in a really bad way- thin screechy tinny loud.

Re: The Well XLIV- Ha! No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

favorite live album (any band)

Did you edit this question in? I missed it.

I'd be inclined to say Live & Dangerous (Thin Lizzy) but I've heard they recorded some of it in sound check and added crowd sounds later.

...so for pure "live-ness" the winner is One Night at Budokan (MSG). Not just for performance but I just love the raw "just like you were there" way it's recorded. And the Japanese crowds are timid enough where it doesn't interfere with the recordings :laugh2:

Re: The Well XLIV- Ha! No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

haha, yeah i edited it a couple minutes after the original post. guess it was a couple minutes too late

Re: The Well XLIV- Ha! No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Re: The Well XLIV- Ha! No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Indeed!

What's your Fav Adrian Smith solo and why?

I'd prolly have to say the studio version of Revelations (in fact I think Revelations are both Dave and Adrian's best studio solos pretty much-at least my favorites).

Because he totally nailed pacing, dynamics, and tension over a fast and "dark" sounding backing. He starts out with the fast trill, nails that pinch and then the slow choppy descending pentatonic lick . Then the fast legato open string to higher fret hammer-on lick (also done at the begining of Back In the Village-my fave lick of his), and then he goes into that minimal note slow bending lick milking it for all it's worth with the vibrato, then the fast stacatto pedal point lick up to a screaming bend and more perfect vibrato.

(and if you listen carefully a few times, you will hear that Dave's solo mirrors the same general themes but the order is pretty much reversed). There was alot of forethought there from them both.

What'S your Fav KK Downing solo and why?

I love KK's lead playing cos it's just so...strange? He kind of just goes for it, and it's pretty much the same solo every song but I do really like K.K.s echoplex solo wank on The Sinner (from Unleashed). Usually don't care for all that whammy bar wank stuff, but he does a good job of keeping it "musical" and it fits the mood of the tune.

What's your Fav Bruce Dickinson song?

I'm not familiar really with his solo material, so cannot choose there- For vocals w/ Iron Maiden? I'd have to tip my hat to:

Any of the old live versions of Revelations (LAD, 83 Dortmund Concert, 85 RIR, etc)

Invaders-the timing- that pause before the end of each phrase and how he finishes it up by it running right into the next line.

And Powerslave for anything and everything :D

Re: The Well XLIV- Ha! No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Favourite Monthy Python sketch.

Well the obvious has been stated, but there was also this one where they were doing a TV interview type show, and each guest had a speech problem where they could not pronounce a certain letter, like say "s" (and of course the persons name would be something like "sorenson").

The World War One skit in the trench where they drawing straws and playing "rock paper scissors" etc to determine who would die.

This one

Ministry of Silly Walks...Lots of great stuff-I watch it on Friday nights on BBC america when I can :D

Re: The Well XLIV- Ha! No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

Are you afraid of heights?

Really depends- I climbed 20-30 feet up in treestands half of my life hunting, and been in some pretty tall buildings on a deck and it didn't bother me at all. But in Montana & Colorado on some of those extremely high mountain roads/passes/scenic lookouts I was scared out of my wits.

Wow this was tough-here's how I'd rank it

MSG- Barden (first 2 albums & ONAB)
UFO-Schenker tied with The Scorpions (with Uli, Mathias, or Mike, doesn't matter)
MSG- Graham
UFO- Chapman
Fastway (if we are including the second & third albums they drop hard)
McAuley SG
Waysted
Lonestar
UFO-Vinnie
The Plot
Mogg Way

not fam with HMK, that I remember anyway ?

FWIW- as far as I'm concerned once we get past UFO-Chapman on my list, it doesn't really matter :D

Bonnet/ Chapman Era UFO was tough to rank because Assault Attack was a VERY strong album-not a bad track, whereas Chapman era UFO didn't have any super strong album but a handful of strong songs on each and then "alot of " ho hum".

Definitive lineup would have to be classic Mikey and Paul Raymond circa Obsession.

Definitive album is also Obsession. They pulled it all together there-songs production, playing.

However my fave album is probably Phenomenon.

Re: The Well XLIV- Ha! No-one expects the Spanish Inquisition!
