Thoughts on SH-15 (Alt 8) pickup

I bought a used covered SH-15 and want to get some feedback on what kind of guitar it might possibly work best with. I was thinking of either putting it in my PRS SE Zach Myers, my PRS SE Santana, or my Yamaha Pacifica 212VQM. I'm thinking since it seems to possibly be a brighter pickup that it would work best in one of the PRS guitars due to the mahogany body/neck and the shorter scale on each. I've never tried this pickup before and am only going based on what I've read about it, so any thoughts or experiences will be greatly appreciated.

It should work well in any of those. It is a loud powerful pickup that is sensitive to height adjustment. You may find that you have to set it lower than whatever you're replacing with it.

It would probably work well in any of those guitars.

The Alt 8 is like the JB in that it can sound quite a bit different in different guitars. Think of it as a slightly less harsh Duncan Distortion or a supercharged JB with added tightness and make your choice from there.

Like the JB i liked it in longer scaled guitars like Fenders, while the short scale tend to soften the harsher Distortion. I dont think 'bright pickups in dark guitars' and vice versa is right. If you think in these terms, then you could never put humbuckers in Les Pauls and Single Coils in Fenders.

I will agree that it will work well in any of those, but try the PRSs first. Most likey, it will overpower whatever is in there, so balancing might be tricky, as it is pretty aggressive.

Like Demanic said, very sensitive to height adjustment. Also, don't be afraid to adjust the poles individually to fine-tune the response

It is a great high output pickup no doubt. Everything you want in a JB without the things you dont want. It is somewhat dark sounding in an evil way (great for most metal styles). I had one in a Charvel and i regret letting it go with the guitar.

I'm thinking I might put it in my ESP M-100FM and use the SH-11 I have in there now in a different guitar. Love the SH-11 tho...very cool pickup.
