hey foamy - thanks bro - appreciate the kind words ... we're aiming for local small bars and any functions that come along like company picnics, etc ... i dont think we'll be able to compete with the pro wedding bands around here as part timers ... i think we'll see a lot more moose halls than banquet halls

thanks also to FB7, eresseraca, and strange sound ... thanks for having a listen and for sharing your kindness ...

cheers

Bill, You guys sound great. Nice vocals all around and the guitar playing was definitely there with good tone.. You won't have any trouble getting gigs.......you will be busy, my friend. Congrats and best wishes...........Joe

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

thanks joe - very kind of you to say so, friend ... we'll see what happens ... it's just good to be ready to get out of the basement, yunno? ... sometimes doing it for it's own fun is enough ... and then sometimes, enough is enough already and ya' wanna get out in front of some folks and have a big ol party atmosphere happenin while ya play ...

have a great weekend

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

All the singing is very good. I can imagine you guys being a really fun band at a function.

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

Man, I've gotta come up and hear y'all sometime. That's awesome. Fun tunes, great playing and singing.

I'm not sure if I don't like your version of "Lights" better than Journey's, and I'm not one of those Journey haters, either. Great job.

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

hey larry and richard, thanks guys - very kind of you to say ...

yeah that's exactly what we hope to be, a band that people hear at a bar or party and walk out saying 'wow, that was a great time' ... we don't need for it to be about us, we want for it to be about just creating a totally fun vibe for the crowd ... of course, we hope that they associate it with us enough to hire us back and spread the word, but you get the idea :D

thanks again

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

Yer singer sounds like Pat Benatar, yall should do Hell Is For Children. :>

And I'll tell ya what it sounds like to me... it sounds like you guys cut loose a bit more when you get up in front of a bunch of those drunks. I've recorded a few tunes in my house here, and I know firsthand how tough it is to get energy levels up in a recording situation. That said, everything is in place, pretty good overall, is my opinion.

The only thing that matters, in the end, is that you get to rock. I don't get to rock these days, it's annoying. I've actually been considering just finding myself a covers band much like yours that needs another guitar, just so I get to get up onstage now and again. Good on ya mate, you're making music and **** anyone who says it's no good.

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

yup, rev .. spot on ... we always mention at rehearsal that we feel like things are draggin a bit, tempo wise ...

re: benatar - we cover pat's version of the john cougar tune 'i need a lover' ... we had to drop it a minor third 'cus kathy can't hit the high notes like pat could ... 'goodbye to you' is dropped at least a full step for the same reason too

i hope ya find something that helps get your musical jones satisfied ... this is a total compromise from what i *wish* i could be playing (e.g. something that would stretch me as a musician), but its a helluva lot better than nuthin' and in the end, its fun to do .... good luck

thanks for listenin

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

I wish I could walk in a bar and hear a variety of songs like that that sounded that good.

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

Whoa flashback! :D Nice demo there bro. Those are fun tunes.. aint that what it's all about? Very tight. That intro to the Sheryl Crow tune was friggin cool for sure.

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

thanks john and steve .. i'm grateful for the kind words

yeah stevo - funny you mention the 'fav mistake' intro ... i really dig the way the parallel combo of 'outer' coils sounds on that ... one coil from the A2P and one coil from the JB ... might be my favorite tone moment of the whole demo ... i grab the bass note with my hooked over thumb and bar the other notes from the B-7 at the 7th fret ... i palm the pick on the intro and try to channel my inner seymour with just fingers for maximum mojo ...

congrats again on the cap-n-gown, bud .. happy for ya - you deserve to be major proud!

cheers

T4D, sounds just fine to my ears. Nice tones, tight, very solid singing and a real nice wide range of classics. Good stuff for sure!!!

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

I listened to the whole thing a few times, and I loved it. That's a FINE set and selection of songs you have!

I loved every song, but I loved 'My Favourite Mistake' the most. That one moved me. <3

I know you titled the thread in jest, but seriously, all of you guys rock. Not only does it sound great, it sounds *fun*!

Awesome job, Bill - I want to be in a band like yours.

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

I really enjoyed that! Great selection of songs very well played. Seeing you guys play would be a great night out. I especially liked your rhythm guitar tones. That sounds like I'm trying to avoid talking about your playing, which I'm not... Playing's great!! But it's tough getting great studio tone on a budget and you pulled it off!! Excellent! :fing2:

"Reasonably normal suburban adults with careers and families and stuff who haven’t quite outgrown our adolescent dreams of being rock stars". - That rings a bell. :D

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

thanks Bee ... very kind of you to say ... the thing that makes me giggle the most on that demo is 'the middle' ... it sounds to me more like our version should be called 'the middle aged' :D ... i think the vocals are a little 'soft' for a 'punkish' tune ... but it was fun to have a slightly more brutal rhythm tone and play a lotta fast notes in the solo :D ... will have to see how that one goes over live as it lies a bit outside the main demographic of our setlist ... "here's one for the youngsters ..." :D

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

thank you for listening simon ... glad you found our self-description something to identify with ... legends in our own minds, for 39 songs a night :D ...

i was pretty happy with how the tones came outta that little dg-stomp modeling preamp pedal DI to the A/D card ... with the pickup combos on the brian moore, it covered a lot of ground ...

oops I guess I'm a nerd too :D

Re: thread to make you feel better about your playing ...

thats an awesome sounding demo man!

it's got the right 'feel' for each song, the recording fella did a great job by the sounds of it!

and you've got some awesome tones for the songs - not nail-on-the-head accurate, but a nice, considered tone with your own touch is always better IMO
