Tone That Sets You Apart - Why The '57 Classics Have To Go

Re: Tone That Sets You Apart - Why The '57 Classics Have To Go

If you've ever bought a guitar just because you had a favorite set of Duncans sitting unused, then you are in as bad of shape as I am. I actually did that one time.

I've done worse. I got a guitar for a pickup I didn't even have. I had played Pearly Gates before and knew I had to have a set, but didn't want to change out my JB in my #1, so I got a beat up (very beat up) tele off ebay, got a PG Bridge, and went to town rebuilding the guitar. In retrospect...a great decision!

And actually, as you can see in my signature, I have Fender single coils in the neck, but I'm currently searching ebay for APS replacements. I really like how the Texas Specials sound, exactly what I was hoping for from them. But then, a month or two back, I had the luxury of playing some Alnico II Pro's in a strat and realized what I'd been missing out on.

Just an update to my original post, in case anyone's interested...

I took the '57s out of the Classic on Friday night and replaced them with a set of SD '59s I've had spare since the Seths went into the Standard. I've been playing the guitar over the weekend. Every available opportunity. ;)

Wow! :32: :32: :32:

I'd forgotten just how good a set of '59s can sound! They were a little bright for the Standard, but my Classic is a darker sounding guitar acoustically. These pups really liven it up! Fabulous aggressive growl from the bridge model. The '59b doesn't seem to get as much coverage around here as it's neck counterpart, but it really is a GREAT classic rock bridge pickup. SH-1's - Seymour certainly got off to a good start with those! :fing2:

So now I'm really digging having an A2 LP and an A5 LP!

The A2Ps might have to wait until I can afford another Lester to put them in.. :naughty:

I had taken the '57 Classic out if the bridge of my SG '61 and replaced it with a Seth a few weeks ago. Yesterday, I finally got around to taking the neck '57 out and popping in the other Seth....Needless to say, my immediate reaction was "what took so long!" What a difference the two Seths make combined. I also reversed the neck pup (like Greenie), without messing with the magnet, to see if I could brighten up the neck position. Sounds great. Don't know if it really made a difference by flipping it though.
