Trembucker with a tune-o-matic bridge??

Hi everyone:

During the last year I've been using the EMG-HZ pickups mounted in my Jackson DKMGT guitar :smoker:

I wanted to try something different, I play mainly hard-rock and metal (Iron Maiden, Metallica, AC/DC, etc.. ) and I've ordered a SH-5/SH-1n combo. (you think it's a good choice?)

I read out there that trembuckers are designed for Floyd Rose and Vintage tremolos, and humbuckers for Gibson style bridges. So I thought my guitar belongs to the latest (it's a tunomatic bridge).

But now I've measured the distance of my strings and it's more than 2 inches (some 52 mm, trembucker spacing according to S.Duncan) ... so now I'm confused about this cos my guitar doesn't have either a Floyd Rose or Fender style tremolo!! And I've seen other Jackson with a bridge like mine with TB4 trembuckers

:smack:

Should I have ordered a trembucker spaced pickup?? Does it really affect the sound that much??

Thanks!

Some tom's have a wider spacing like yours does, some post 95 gibsons, and a few others. I have heard that it dosent make a big difference in tone if you are using a standard spaced bucker with it but, I have always been anal about having the poles line up with the strings. BTW, welcome to the forum!!!

I think the SH-5/SH-1n combo is a great choice for your styles.

I don't know about post 1995 Gibsons as the ones I own are older but they require the trem-spaced pickups to line up better. Not necessary but I am picky about these things, even though the sound won't be much different either way.

Re: Trembucker with a tune-o-matic bridge??

With a higher output pickup like the SH-5 I doubt there'd be much of an audible difference between the traditional and trem spaced pups. It's merely going to be a cosmetic issue since the strings won't exactly line up with the strings.

The Demon (SH-12) in my strat copy is non-trem spaced. Aside from the misalignment I can't tell that the spacing is a bit off.

Re: Trembucker with a tune-o-matic bridge??

I try to get trembuckers for everything. They always work better in non-trem guitars than standard spaced ones work in trem guitars.
