Re: Tremelo or no Tremelo?

I use my trem (vibrato) all the time. But I lost my tremolo arm, and Im desperate, so i used a screwdriver (which prubably stripped the inside all up, but its a cheap squier, so i dont mind for now).

actually, as vibrato refers to variation in pitch; tremolo refers to variation in amplitude

the picking technique you refer to is probably staccato

Actually, Curly, BornToShred is right. Tremolo is a rapid repitition of a single tone. Vibrato is variation in pitch. Staccato is a technique where notes are played very crisp and short.

As far as this discussion is concerned, I am a hartail guy myself. My Tele and LP are fixed, of course, and my strat copy has a tremolo bridge (but with 5 springs installed and claw tightened, that bridge isn't going anywhere). In fact, I couldn't tell you where the trem bar is.

The RG under(re)(de)construction has been routed for a Wilkinson, mainly because it already had a spring cavity and I also wanted to play around with a tremolo that shouldn't come out of tune, without installing a Floyd, because I absolutly HATE playing them.

Re: Tremelo or no Tremelo?

I need a floating trem.

A hardtail is just ridiculous in that it just lies there not moving, it doesn't flex at all. When I wanna get down and be as one with my geet'r, I wanna be able to just plain get down-- in all aspects!

And in a perverse way, I guess, I like the fact you got a whole machine to work with when changing strings-- it's just a big clunky machine when you get down to it. But, this clunky mass allows me to get cool sounds with the grabbing of an arm and just dance.. !

Long Live the Bar!!!!

Re: Tremelo or no Tremelo?

I have one Floyd-equipped guitar. It's there when I need it, but I don't go crazy on the thang.

Re: Tremelo or no Tremelo?

Regardless of whether I use them or not, I usually like them. I like to keep my options open, i guess.
