True story, man. I had a tele... I wanna say it was a '72. Someone routed out the neck position and put a strat pickup there before I got it. It was a killer sounding guitar but I mostly used it for recording; I really don't like gigging without a whammy bar. But I wound up filling in with a country band and brought it along. And wouldn't you just know it... the one time I take it to a gig... the case gets set down for a second out back of the venue and the soundcrew runs over it.

I like neck thru super strats, they're cool and get the job done, but agree they shouldn't be the go to. That's why I plan on building a neck thru V guitar. I have a few starts and I only plan on getting a few moreover stopping my strat shaped purchases for a while. I would like to dedicate time to build and get BC Rich warlocks and V guitars.

Just because your guitar has only ONE of the following doesn't mean it's a superstrat:
- Strat style body.
- Locking tremolo and nut (recessed, non recessed doesn't matter).
- 24 frets (this is definitely a deal breaker).

Eh? I own a ton of different guitars and quite a few of them are Superstrats. I don't give a flying **** if people hate them though. They work for me, and they might not work for a lot of people and that's perfectly fine by me. Likewise, I can't stand how the SGs and the Teles look. I like their sound but just could never get myself to buy one because I think they make me look like an idiot. I'm sure plenty of people think Superstrats make them look like total ******bags too.

Why DO people hate superstrats anyway? I see a lot of denigrators here, but none of them really rationalise it. Yes, de gustibus and all that, but one would think that there was a little more behind it when people make threads and such.

Well, I know several players of pointy guitars personally. Some of them are capable of removing limbs by simple manual force, in addition to being proficient with and having ready access to various edged weapons and slug throwers. They are also of the temperament to genuinely enjoy attempts being made against them. You can use your imagination as to the rest.

I like them, but at the same time, too much of a good thing may not be a good thing. While they look cool, are super workable and get the job done, some find it sad that there aren't a lot of new shapes, that we could have done better than just making these neck-thru, my exceptions are super-strats that don't look itat first glance, but I only own one of those. My other pretty much makes it obvious. I own other shapes as well.
