Uli John Roth

Re: Uli John Roth

His early Scorpions work was just magnificent. I remember as a teen the song "In trance" and also the solo of this song. Great feeling, great emotion. His successor "Matias Jabs" was also phenomenal, but a little bit "happier" than Jon Uli Roth.

Re: Uli John Roth

Looks like it would be impossible to play without a walkup guitar stand if you ask me.

Re: Uli John Roth

Obviously this thread is for me. Sorry ya'll-in the '80s I was learning '60s and '70s, and not guitar. As I continue to make an ass of myself (they told me it was my job here), did Yngwie Malmsteen or John Roth or someone else come up with scalloped fretboard first?? And someone told me Steve Vai also used it.
I'll take all newb education. And you better not get ugly or you'll get minced.

God I love that guitar (Sky), but I'd have to sell my house. Hey-then I could buy a truck, too. . . .

Could you explain to me what that is? I know it's dumb to you, but you ain't a newb!

I am fascinated how he can play to sound like a violin

Re: Uli John Roth

those sky guitars are like $15k or something but they are very unique. hes always so german, makes me laugh

Re: Uli John Roth

I think Blackmore may used scalloped fretboards too, but I could be wrong.

Vai only has the top 4 or so scalloped on his, he has 24 fret guitars so those top ones are getting tight, it gives a little more space for his fingers.

Re: Uli John Roth

Blackmore did scallop his fretboard. In the first video of Uli, he said he saw that Blackmore was using them and thought it was a great idea. That is a wicked guitar, but too out there for me.

Re: Uli John Roth

Uli is der ubermensch.

Go ahead, try playing "Sails Of Charon"... try. I dare ya.

Yeah, might be something to do with his genes er somethin. . . german can be done, but apparently not undone. I know lots of German people-Dad used to work for Volkswagen in Mexico. Now THAT was funny-German v Manana!
Anyway, coz of him I learned about scalloped frets, which I'd never heard of. I wrote my friend "How can he play violin on a guitar???"

They're only 14k.

First 50 made by Dean!

I love how slinky and relaxed his vibrato is, while being wide and dramatic.

Yeah, I like lots of stuff you do. First time I heard him I thought I was hearing violin, then he eased into the darker. Kind of like, dare I say it, hacer el amor.

Wow. I am getting educated. I was told Malmsteen, Roth, eh, but not Blackmore. Is that what gives Roth (besides being Roth) the ability to sound like a fkn violin? And Quetzlcoatl knows what else. . . I'd believe piano

Man, I think it's absoflutely beautiful. But I'm just a girl.

Re: Uli John Roth

id think the violin thing is as much about gain, tone, and technique as anything else

Re: Uli John Roth

Uli Jon Roth is one hell of a guitarist. I love his opening lead solo on this song...it's sick and phat!

Great vid but of course it's the original song track (synched).

Love how he is so nonchalant about his ripping solo lines.

Forget where I read about it, but he states he doubled his stuff in the studio quite often to fatten up the guitar track (thin Strat tone).

That solo is awesome; anyone who is remotely interested in Uli, Scorpions or neo-classical shred should at least check it out on their guitar.
