Used Gibson Studio

After owning the SG for a year when I go play my 1959 Epiphone Les Paul and im not digging it as much, the open notes and that is sounding kind of cheap to me. So i seen the red wine les paul it was hardly used 2009 with no fret wear or scratches. GC was asking 900 since they just got it but the sale guy gave me the 10% off. So I traded in the 59 and a mim strat and the nova system. I know I took a hit but in Michigan things are not moving good. I played the gibson and the les paul epiphone side by side and the Gibby won, it sounded bigger and better!! Epi had burstbuckers and the Gibby has the 490/498t that work well in this guitar. My Sg I didnt like those pups at first it sounded muddy untill I set the pups just right and adjusted the poles. On the Gibby I did not even have to adjust the poles it sounds just fine! Sounds a little better then My sg because the maple cap prob. Some people dont like the pups, im very picky and these sounds good on my Vox handwired.

Re: Used Gibson Studio

Congrats!! yeah, sounds like an upside down deal, but I understand about the economy and most importantly, if the guitar really moves you, then it was worth it!

Re: Used Gibson Studio

Thanks I dont find any issues with the quality or tone. I like the neck on the SG because I have smaller hands and the rose wood looks a bit better but all good:)

Re: Used Gibson Studio

Congratulations! Nice score. That's a sweet guitar. I've owned and own Epiphones and Gibsons, and there's no comparison there IMO. Great guitar man, enjoy it.

Re: Used Gibson Studio

Very nice. A prime example of trading up using what you have to get there (the Nova helping with less out of pocket). LP Studios are nice. Had a black one back in the 90's. A killer guitar. Another one I wish I never let go of.

Re: Used Gibson Studio

without working, this is how I manage to get gear. I usually loose out some unless you want to wait to the right person comes along with cash.

Well go over there, tap[ that @$$, get the cammera and get back here with some pics.

I feel the temperature's dropping already - getting ICY. If you know what i mean. If not, look up the NEW GUITAR LETDOWN thread....

But - Les Paul Studio; It's everything you NEED in a Les Paul. 90's seemes to be a good period in general for those.

Re: Used Gibson Studio

Re: Used Gibson Studio

Think about the difference in the playing styles of the 1950's and present day rock.

Watch Rock Around the Clock or some such music like old Roy Clark or some of the Nashville pickers or older Jazz guitarists such as the 1950's Les Paul videos..

Skinnier frets require good fingering techniques. Fatter frets wil give good results with sloppy fingering and distortion.

Re: Used Gibson Studio

Re: Used Gibson Studio

couldn't takes pics inside:(

Yeah, that sucked, I went there last winter, so many amazing guitars and no pics of them.

As for the "iceman" comments. He is a forum member who will tell us about a new piece of gear and not provide any pictures. This is just not acceptable in this day and age. Would love to see pics of your studio. I've always thought that if I ever shell out for an actual gibson it would be a used wine red studio.
