After owning the SG for a year when I go play my 1959 Epiphone Les Paul and im not digging it as much, the open notes and that is sounding kind of cheap to me. So i seen the red wine les paul it was hardly used 2009 with no fret wear or scratches. GC was asking 900 since they just got it but the sale guy gave me the 10% off. So I traded in the 59 and a mim strat and the nova system. I know I took a hit but in Michigan things are not moving good. I played the gibson and the les paul epiphone side by side and the Gibby won, it sounded bigger and better!! Epi had burstbuckers and the Gibby has the 490/498t that work well in this guitar. My Sg I didnt like those pups at first it sounded muddy untill I set the pups just right and adjusted the poles. On the Gibby I did not even have to adjust the poles it sounds just fine! Sounds a little better then My sg because the maple cap prob. Some people dont like the pups, im very picky and these sounds good on my Vox handwired.
