are they imitating any amp in particular?
When the Transtube technology first came out, I saw a Peavey demonstration where the guitarist(s) could switch between a Classic 30 and a Transtube Bandit, and neither the audience or the guitarist could consistently identify which amp was in use. It was very impressive.
That said, all of my amps are tube amps by Mesa Boogie.

Maybe the audience couldn't tell, but I bet the player could.
the transtube bandit is a piece of ****. well... I just like cursing. The cleans are pretty nice, but the gain is a sloppy mess with terrible cleanup. Given the "transtube" title, it really sounds nowhere near a tube amp. The reverb is the best part of the amp IMHO.

is this black/silver?
I've read that pdf from Peavey, and the theory is reasonable enough that I got a Studio Pro chassis in a trade and built a new cabinet for it from solid wood, sealed back with a G12M-70 in it. It sounds better than a lot of Peavey's I've played--still not toe to toe with a good Marshall, but for what I've got in it, it does pretty well.
