Re: What do you tune to?

Usually E standard. Drop D is cool and all, but I usually go standard.
I used to go Eb standard, but later changed my mind haha.

Re: What do you tune to?

Dropped D: LP Standard — for my Tool tribute band

Open G: G&L ASAT — for various classic rock and slide things

Standard: All my other guitars

Re: What do you tune to?

E standard these days.

I used to do Eb, but on a Floyd-trem Jackson that quickly leads to a guitar that is useless for most jam/studio/rehearsal sessions.

Re: What do you tune to?

E.
I have used dropped D, rarely.
And sometimes I tune the acoustic to some open ones for a bit of noodlin' with the slide, but rarely.
Hmmm, maybe it's time to spice things up a little?

Re: What do you tune to?

mostly std E but i keep one in std D for trio gigs when i need to sing. ill drop the low string down to D or C respectively for some songs, usually slide tunes.
i will use open G or open E (or D) for some songs

Re: What do you tune to?

I"m limited by my number of guitars....therefore

Electric-E standard, sometimes drop D
Acoustic- Its usually in DADGAD a majority of the time, I like the feel of it and it caused me to have to learn how to play a little different.
I would love to have more guitars to tune differently, I'd probably have a D standard, and one for this open Dm7add9 tuning. DADFCE, it plays really cool. I wanna record a song in that on a strat...beautiful.

Re: What do you tune to?

EADGBe

I play with a band, man. With a piano. Playing with other people, E Standard is the only way to go. I would hate to have to do that +1 / + a half step calculation in my head every time I played a chord and lose all the open chord forms.

Re: What do you tune to?

almost all standard E tuning

but i have the tele clone in open E tuning these days cus i've been embarrassing myself playing slide and derek trucks uses open E so i figured i'd start there .. i think i need to mess with the string heights to get them all flat ... the curve of the fretboard radius is messin' with me

Re: What do you tune to?

I tune to E standard. Mainly to keep things simple and I like the way strings play and sound tuned up to pitch; alot more 'zing'. Makes my 25'5 scale sound more like itself.

Re: What do you tune to?

my ibie is in Eb/Drop Db
my ltd is in E standard/Drop D

most of my stuff is written in drop Db

Re: What do you tune to?

Mostly E standard, also some drop D. I only go into other tunings if I'm covering a song that requires a different tuning.

Re: What do you tune to?

99% of the time I'm in E standard. Drop D occasionally, and rarely down a half step. I used to have to tune 1 guitar down to D standard for Crue songs when I was in a cover band.

I've never tuned down below D standard. Ever.

Re: What do you tune to?

Most of the time (90%) I play and have all my guitars in Eb. It sounds beefier, darker and meaner than standard E to me. Sometimes I play some Doom and Stoner in B. I don't have a dedicated guitar for it, I usually just downtune one of my guitars when I feel like it.

Re: What do you tune to?

Maybe I'm getting old, but it just seems to make life simpler (in every aspect) to use standard tuning. Old dog, new trick.

+1. I just don't like the sound of heavy dropped tuning. It doesn't sound like a guitar any more. Eb is fine, and dropped D is only adjusting one string, but this drop C/B stuff just doesn't sound right to me. I love playing guitar, not 6 string bass.

Heh. I sometimes go down to Gb.

i play almost all my slide in std tuning. why re-learn everything in a new tuning? playing complex chords can be tricky in open tunings too but derek does it exceptionally well.

as for the radius, flatter can help if you have a slide long enough to more than cover the whole neck. i still like to keep the saddles adjusted for some radius, 10-12" works best for me anything more curved than that can really be a hinderance

Re: What do you tune to?

Most of the time, I use E standard. Occasionally I'll tune down half a step to Eb standard, or sometimes, Drop D if the song calls for it. But most of the time, I can find tabs for whatever song I want to play in E standard.

Re: What do you tune to?

I used to play standard but ive switched to Eb years ago when i had a hendrix addiction lol but then the strings felt way too slinky and weak so i started using heavier gauge strings. when i joined the band im in however and they played std drop D metal.. so since i only had 1 guitar, i hated readjusting my guitar every single time we would go practice and the 11s where becoming way to stiff now in std for me... so i managed to convince them switch to drop Db by telling them it was the same just that it would sound heavier and would play easier lol they liked it so its become the tuning i play with now in general tho i still switch to Eb sometimes just for fun and to play old songs, sometimes might not sound the same as std but i manage with it.

I find its a prefect middle especially if you want to use heavier strings to get a fatter sound and not so slinky feel without it feeling like your playing with bridge cables lol

Re: What do you tune to?
