I tune to standard E. When I was about 17 I started using Drop D since it was easy and the other bands around were using it. We were more classic rock sounding and they were darker and heavier. I then tuned down a step for the same reason and because Drop D was limiting (I sucked and had not figured the cool ways to use it). But for the last 7-8 years I have been tuning standard or 1/2 step down. I use a D tuna some

I love the tone and feel of Eb on 9-42. But my singer/guitarist for some reason hates Eb so now have to live with standard E. Some day I wanna try standard D on a floyd axe. One of my heroes - Criss Oliva of Savatage did it.

with all these supposed nonconformists in rock/metal I wonder if anyone thought of tuning up. to F or G. super un-heavy. ya, thats the ticket :beerchug:

Personally, I keep all my guitars a half step below standard with Dixie's low e tuned to drop d.

My BCRich Bich I use to teach with so it stays standard E mostly (80's Metal etc)
My Epi Xplorer plays down 1/2 step (Dokken,Slayer,Candlemass, etc.)
My Jackson RR dropped D (Judas Priest, Ratt, Pantera, etc.)
My Epi LP I have dropped C and sometimes Dropped B (My own band Sin Is Death, Killswitch Engage, Zakk Wylde)
