What is the maximum you would pay for this amp ?

A friend of mine is looking for a tube head that does not weigh too much as he has chronic back problems. (This is 22 pounds)

I have a 1976 version of this amp ( the "full" combo) and he enjoys playing through it.

What do you guys think is the maximum reasonable amount to bid for this?

Weird ... so it was converted to a head by someone?

I'd say $500 CAN would be a good deal, and $600 would be about as high as I would go. It would need some work to get it up to original spec, and of course it has no speaker.

I'm not too concerned about original specs, but I'm wondering about it needing new caps and tubes. As long as sounds close to mine, he will be thrilled.

Someone modded mine before I bought it and put a 12" speaker in it. Fine by me. I paid $600 Canadian, but the reverb needed work and I had it fully serviced...great little amps !!

Now you can get a cab (speakers and configuration) of your choice !!!

Price wise i have no idea, but would probably NOT go higher than $500.00 USD -don't know what it is in CAD.

I'd say go for it !!!

Ever seen a Fender Bandmaster Reverb Amp head? People wonder why they are so tall. The reason is that the reverb springs are mounted on the bottem of the box and if the reverb springs are to close to the transformers you'll get alot of hum. My guess is that the person who chopped that amp into a head was unaware of that...and that the reverb springs might be to close to the transformers. So it might be a hummer... If you're going to make it back into a combo amp, no problem. But it might hum if you use it as a head. Lew

I like the bassman blackface heads. those are the pre 1968 heads. after Fender was bought out, they cut corners here and there and the bassman heads circuitry were all changed up.

That said, 1968 is pretty old. make sure to set aside $ for repairs.

This certainly is a wakeup call as the amp is to be kept as a head because of it being so light in weight.

Is there any way that you know of to solve the humming without increasing the height of the head? I'm wondering if the humming can be resolved by some type of "shielding" for the tank (just a guess/thought), or some type of electronics based solution. I'm assuming that the humming is a result of an electronics based reason.

It would really be a pain/frustration if this turns out to be a "hummer" and it would be great if there is a reasonably simple way of reducing/eliminating the hum. :fingersx:

Any electronics engineers/gurus or amp builders have any thoughts on possible solutions?

your Friend would be better off looking for a Showman Reverb. They can be had for under 500$ and it is a considerably better amp. Think of the Showman as a Twin in a head format. The BF and SF(Non Master volumes are the ones to look for) Showmans are 80W and powere by 4 6L6 tubes. They are very loud and very clean. The heads are deep enough to keep the reverb tank far enough away from the trannys to not hum as Lew pointed out. These are a great buy and have great tone. They also take pedals very well.

This is a NON Reverb model, but it will give you an idea of what they are!

He won't go as high as $500.00 US, it is beyond his financial limits.

The humming thing is a concern.

I expect that new tubes and caps will be needed at some point.

The Showman would be too heavy, but thanks for the info. and link.
