i am thinking about getting some sort of recording device. i like the looks of the tascam dp02cf. i am not very familiar with all the features and what i could do with them.

any advice? it will be just me for now, and hopefully other musicians in the future.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I've been using my laptop and some recording software with a simple M-Audio interface or an Edirol UA-1A for my stereo stuff.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

right now, i'm using the older version of the line 6 ux1 toneport in conjunction with ableton live 5 lite(4 track recorder) and audacity. i run my 4 track wav files into audacity as audacity can run 16 wavs at a time, so i've got 64 tracks altogether. at one point i was micing up my vox, but i don't have a good mic anymore so it's just straight into the models for guitar. for bass i run my cube 30's output into the toneport directly into live without any modeling.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

At the moment I'm running:

Mic / DI -> MOTU 828 mk. II -> Mac Pro running OS X 10.5 & Logic Express 8

The box is a stock 2.66 Quad; I was hoping to upgrade but got laid off. Now that I'm employed again, I'll be upgrading:

+4GB RAM
OS X 10.6
Windows 7 (bootcamp)
Logic Studio 9 maybe??

I also have a Korg Pandora PXR-4 that I take with me when traveling since the Mac isn't exactly portable. It records in mp3 format which I can import into Logic or Garage Band once I get home. What you need really comes down to what sort of quality you're shooting for. Before getting the Mac I recorded all of my demos on the Pandora and mixed in Audacity.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I record most stuff into a fostex mr-8 and upload it into logic express to mix/add effects. I wouldn't advise that. I just came from the 4-track school of things.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

Whatever (guitar amp, my voice) ->Mic -> Line6 TonePort -> Audacity

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

guitar amp ->Rode Microphones -> Cheapo Yamaha mixer -> laptop with Logic

laptop & PODxt

i'm far more pleased with the POD since i started recording through the USB connection. jesus christ, i was using the POD line out to my computer's audio in for nearly 4 years, and was never happy with it. what a ****tard i am. (though in my defense, on my old harddrive the POD would crash windows if i used the USB. i just recently got a new drive)

interesting there was such a vast difference. makes me wonder if I just switch one thing up in my chain if it'd make an improvement. seems like whatever I do sorta comes out the same - like a demo tape from the 80s that someone left in their car on a sunny day.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I'm using Cubase 5 with a Tascam US-1641 interface. All mic preamps and many effects are outboard gear, though. I have an Arsenal mic preamp, a Chandler, and an SSL.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I use my Mac, a Behinger Vamp & an Mbox mini as an audio interface. The Mbax allows me to use good quality mics when I record acoustic. The Vamp allows me to go right to Garage Band! For what I do (which is just some basic tracks) Garage band and the others works fine.

really? that bartake song sounds awesome.

and yes, USB vs. line out makes an enormous difference. so much less mushy and crappy.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

i have been looking at the tascam gt-r1. i need a trainer as well as recording ability. i play by myself alot and need backing tracks and the ability to critique my performance as well. this unit should do the trick.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I run my guitar into an M-Audio Firewire Solo, into Sonar 7. I use Reason for loops & synth stuff, and either Guitar Rig 3 or Amplitube Metal for the simulation. Real simple setup.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I run my podxt's line-out into my saffire with a trs cable and record with logic 8. An old yamaha fm11 for midi triggering, and a ldc for acoustic guitars and vocals. In the future I hope to have a living situation that allows me to mic my amp.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I use a Yamaha MW10 USB mixer which then goes to my Mac using Cubase AI, I've used garage band in the past but cubase just sounds better as well as better range of functions.
Microphones are a Behringer SM58 copy when I need dynamic and a Samson C01 wide diaphragm condenser for acoustic instruments and vocals.
for electric guitar I use my ahsdown through the mixer and then Peavy Revalver HP for cab simulation.
I also have a M-Audio keystation 49e USB keyboard.
I should probably take a picture of my 'studio' at some point :)

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

twilight: what's that cool looking rack piece with the old school level meters that looks like it came out of a WWII biplane - a compressor? I'd love to goof with that!

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I got a quality sound card "Turtle Beach TBS-3300-01 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Montego DDL" which turned out to have a much better analog part then my previous stuff. It does the job. Also has S/PDIF in and out.

I use a 1980ties Tascam M216 mixer, which can be had very cheap used but is of much higher quality than current cheapo mixers (Behringer etc).

I have a couple of 19" units (EQ, compressor) from my old PA left but I don't use them for recording.

Re: what recording equipment do you guys use?

I'm using a Digidesign Mbox II w/ Pro Tools LE8.
I'm using PODfarm for recording as well as Recabinet speaker-emulation software - makes the PODfarm emulations sound noticeably better,
and gives me the ability to record my Mesa-Boogie MK III direct as well! :D
