whats so great bout master of puppets

ive had this cd for a while now and many people call it one of the greatest cds ever. i would prefer and justice for all alot more than master. ive listened to the cd many many times and i still wonder why so masny people think its thats great. Can anyone explain?

To me personally it has the rawness that "Ride The Lightning" had (which my personal fav) but moved slightly forward in the growth of the band. Also, I really dislike the production work on "And Justice For All".

I'm with you. AJFA Is much better, probably the best recorded tone I've ever heard as well. Master of Puppets is good, but not the best.

If you listened to ...And Justice for all before Puppets, I can maybe, maybe.... maaaaybe understand how you feel as Justice has slicker production and a much deeper bottom end and more progressive IMO.

I dunno Junior, Puppets had to grow on me. It took about 5 spins and I was hooked for life. I think about any 'tallica fan will tell you that it's a toss-up between Lightning and Puppets for best Metallica album.

Go and listen to "Back to the Front," or maybe it's "Disposable Heroes." Anwyay, that one grabbed me by the cajones.

I can't stand Metallica, but I really like AJFA...specifically for "One."

I totally agree! RTL is my fav and MOP was a great followup. I saw them
on the puppet tour ,And the band was hotter than a pistol. The main
factor IMHO was Cliff Burton . He added a certain Dimention/Dynamic to
the band. His replacement IMHO was hired just to play bass and shutup.
(not to have much opinoin in the creative process like cliff did.) Cliff was
the only guy in the band that understood Music threory. All those great
meter shifts and cool arrangments where his Idea's.

I tend to prefer the black album personally.

The songs on their 'cunning stunts' dvd were by far my most fav.

I'm with you on this one. '...Puppets' was the last Metallica album I bought, and I saw the band just days before Cliff died. They produced some good stuff after that, but there was a certain 'rawness' and 'spark' missing for me.

Puppets is my fave. I can listen to it end to end with no form of annoyance or boredom crossing my mind! The songs were all amazing, especially 'Master of Puppets', a masterpiece of a song in my opinion. I do not like the production of AJFA. sounds too ... i dunno... dry? dunno how to describe. Just lacked a fullness to its sound. The songs are killer though and 'To Live is to Die' is my fave 'tallica instrumental. Puppets my fave.

I personally think its a toss up between Kill 'em All and Ride The Lightning...probably kill em all. But im a sucker for old raw stuff.

About the Cliff dying; band dying thing...

Kirk and Cliff switched bunks after a card game, before the crash. What if Kirk had died instead of Cliff? I honestly think there have been a lot of songs that were great....Until Kirk started with his repitive fast bluesy solo in E minor...again...

And Justice For All sounds like a demo compared to Master Of Puppets.

I liked that drum sound. Very punchy. Diffrent' strokes I guess. 'Tallica must not have liked them tho since they switched the sound for Black.

i dont like AJFA at all, and metallica is my favorite band. i've tried to like it, but it never worked for me. it seems to me that thats when they started using fully EMG's :D
MoP and RTL just sound better to me, the songs just have more fullness to them.

I personally love the first albums way more, like puppets, And jusice, lightning, black

My favorite is deffinantly puppets tho, and justice may have better solos and songs but master of puppets just got that right rythem to make it sound perfect thats why i love that cd, i would choose it over the others
And i deffinatly agree with you guys about And justice for all too, cuz man that cd was baddass, but still i like master of puppets more
