What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

I've always rolled my eyes at people who think in absolutes, it's just not a healthy way to operate. There are very few absolutes in this world.

+1, especially when it makes your guitar sound like it's congested :)

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Will some people like it? Yeah of course. I agree, it is all subjective. Which is why I laughed my ass off @ Axl for saying he thought the OCD was one of the worst overdrive pedals. Personally I think it's the best one I've ever heard.

Gotta consider the source when it comes to things like this.

I've played a few OCD's and found that they're phenomenal with a good amp to send them into. One local Open Mic has one set up with a Peavey Classic and just about every guitar player that plugs into it with any chops sounds quite good.

Awful, awful piece of turd.

One of my fave guitar riffs was recorded with one of those.

Worst = Boss Digital Metalliser. I used it in the 80s when I didn't know any better.

+1, and I was pissed because IT HAD MY INITIALS!!!!! MZ!!!! How can you put out a cr*ppy product with my initials on it !?!?!?!!?!

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Boss mg-10 practice amp. absolutely the worst. I even disconnected the internal speakers and hooked to a 4x10 cab and it was just as bad.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

"sounded like a transistor radio."= nerve-ana [nirvana]

To each his own, I s'pose. I like Slayer, just not the nasally guitar tones. They don't sound bad within the context of the song, but if you dialed in that tone on your guitar by itself, it would sound awful.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

I have gotten the best, and worst tones out of the same amp. The JCM 2000. Cranked, its one sick mofo... Low volume, you get tone only dimebag could love.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Yeah, I had to play through a JCM 900 2x12 at a show once, and I just put an OD in front of the clean side, which wasn't half bad. I'll never make peace with the gain channel, though.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Shows how subjective it is I guess - I agree with the Slayer=nasally, transistor sounding distortion, but I think Cobain's sounds great.

I like Dimes tone in Vulgar Display of Power and Reinventing The Steel.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

Metal zone can get some pretty bad sounds. I never liked that thing.

My friend had a 2x12 crate combo and it was just absolutely horrible. That being said, I have a 15watt crate that actually sounds not too bad. It fetches suprisingly good lead tones.

Its funny though, the same ****ty pedal can sound totally different with a another amp, guitar and player.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

I see a lot of guitarists around my school with that "death metal" pedal of some sort and a Peavey Rage amp (probably with the overdrive going on that as well).

Don't even get me started.

I had one, and I wrestled w/it quite a bit to get it sounding decent, much thanks to some folks here. The gain channel was where I had issues. I got it pretty decent, but, in the end, I sold it. Having said that, even at its worst, it was way better than some crap distorsion/OD pedals or no name amps I've heard through the years. All the names, however, have escaped me.

Re: What's the worst distortion you've heard?

My first amp was a Gorilla that I got i guess when I was 14 or 15. That was pretty horrid.

when I started playing more/getting "serious" I ended up with an old Dean Markley Solid State amp. Not the later creme tolex ones (not that they were any better, LOL), but an original Black one. OMG horrid. Not long after I got into the pedal buying craze trying to get a decent sound out of it. DOD American Metal Pedal was the absolute worst sounding thing I remember buying. It made the onboard distortion sound warm and creamy!:omg:

The OD channel on a Roland Jazz Chorus is pretty dang awful too.

Alot of the Line 6 high gain models are really bad. then again, I dont really care for the original amps they are based on either.

That's no joke. It's totally pointless, as it gives you barely any gain, and what it does give is just awful. Totally useless.
