Whats your dream amp??

Re: Whats your dream amp??

STEEL STRING SINGER, nice to dream.

Actually, I think there's a bunch of great amps out there, Komets, Mad professors, Custom Sig Reverb; they all got something just a little different but way above and beyond most fenders. I'm real happy with my Bruno and might buy an underground 30 or super 100 down the road. I really like that lifetime warranty that Tony Bruno gives; no questions asked.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Someday I may find an amp that does my Marshall and Park better than they do.

It hasn't happened yet, but it may.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

Modern, Mesa Mark 2c+

Vintage, Tweed Pro is the flavor of the week here, of course I'm ignoring practicality. I don't gig therefore I would never need anything this loud.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I want like...10 different distortion channels and 2 clean channels...one kind of fenderish and another one voxish. The distortion channels would have a crazy gain range and run from rather mellow (like super light rock/overdrive) to utter insanity with 3 knobs, presence, contour and 10 band graphic EQ with tube and solidstate circuitry...

Basically a super-suped-up Randall MTS system but with more gain, more EQ thingies and more knobs, lol.

I hate effects, advanced midi switching and junk like that, just give me a pedalboard to be able to switch between the "modules," turn on/off the graphic EQs (1 switch), do a boost thingy and I'd be good.

...but I have a few more 'dream' amps:

Matchless DC30
Dr Z Route 66
Victoria Regal
Bogner Shiva
Splawn Quick Rod
...and a handwired version of my Custom Vibrolux reverb.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

an amp that can replicate every single guitar sound ever heard EXACTLY. down to the dynamics of the sound to the way the note decays.

so you see theres the problem LOL

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I've had a Seymour Duncan 100w Convertible Head for the past 20 years and it has never failed me. Sometimes I think about updating my rig and I check out new amps. (Line6, Marshall.etc.) By the time I get done tweaking them they sound just like my old Duncan! Maybe I'm just old and set in my ways, but I sound good damnit!

Re: Whats your dream amp??

When I was a youngster, I dreamed of owning one of each of the Fender Blackface amps, c. 1965; and at one time or another I have owned most of them over my career.

About 1995, I bought my first Mesa Boogie amp--the Mark III 200-watt Coliseum head listed below. The Mesa really changed my life, and it certainly helped to make me a better player. It remains one of my all time favorite amps to play through. So for the most part, I already have the amps of my dreams. Here's a complete list of all of my Mesa gear:

DC-3 112 Combo
Maverick 212 Combo (2)
Mark IV 112 EVM Combo
Mark III Coliseum 200-watt Head
Mark III Sim-Cls/EQ/Rev 112 EVM Combo
112 O-B Boogie
112 EVM Theile (2)
212 Recto Horizontal
212 C90/MS12 Halfback
412 C90/EVM Halfback

As you can see from my list of amps, I have several Mesas these days, and now I dream of adding a Lone Star Special and a Classic; a Tremoverb, a Heartbreaker, and maybe even a Stiletto Ace.

But I try to remember this important mantra--the amp, or even the guitar, will NEVER be the PERFECT amp. The ONLY thing that can be PERFECT is the LOVE that I put into my songs and my music and my life--the reward is perfect JOY. Sometimes, its fleeting--but it is a great feeling. The guitars and the amps are just tools--the power of self-expression is the joy.

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I think my dream set-up would look something like...

My Stinger -> Port City 2x12 (I hear they have a good low end, which I dig!...never actually used one

65Amps London -> Port City 2x12

And another amp...probably the Daab Tupelo Honey (all I've heard is some clips from the NC Ampfest, but it sounds really nice) or a Matchless something.

I'm almost there!!!

Got a Port City 2x12.....GREAT cab !!!! :beerchug:

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I think my dream amp is one I haven't heard yet. Every time I plug into an amp I've never heard before, I realize that's one more sound I'd like to have.

That said, I'd like to have the following (or variations thereof):
  • Marshall JTM-45
  • Marshall Plexi
  • Tweed Fender Tremolux
  • Tone King Meteor
  • Trainwreck (R.I.P. Ken Fischer)
  • Probably a Bogner and/or Soldano (I need to learn more about these)
I'd also like to have a soundproof room in which to play all these. :)

I'm lucky that Scott is making me his Celtic Amps take on the tweed Tremolux. Can't wait to plug that baby in!

Re: Whats your dream amp??

im gonna have to go with one of those magical 3 in-ones:

classic fender clean channel,

classic marshall rock/metal channel,

and of course a triple rectifier channel.

oooo and spring reverb

add an fx loop and you're good to go!

Actually, I'm thinking that the new Marshall VintageModern might be about right these days. Can't wait to try one!

Re: Whats your dream amp??

I found it a few months ago. It won't do molten metal but my GT-6 takes care of that when the need (seldom) arises.
