What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

These things produce some of my favourite pedal tones.... :)

As for amps ...SLO's or hot rodded JCM 800's...& maybe Dual Recto's.. though I'm pretty happy with the two brutes I have right now :D

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

This thing sounds pretty good to me. I want to start a death metal band and I'd totally use one of these.

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

I love my EVH 5150 III 50 watt, it just takes my soloing to a whole other level and opens up a can of woop a$s

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

Of the amps I've played, my favorite high gain tones are my Randall RM20/RM100 with the JF Pitbull and SG Afterlife mods. The Pitbull is based on a VHT 50/ST and kills at high gain Marshall. The Afterlife is based on the Uberschall with a more traditional power amp, which I like better than the original Uber amp, and kills at all things heavy and modern.

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

Laney AOR 100watt 8-knob version.

nothing satisfies my growl craving better

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

As long as we're talking dream amps, because I must be dreaming if this was mine. My wife would divorce me if I paid $2,500 on just a HEAD!!! Then the cabinet is a cool grand on top of that!
Ahhhhh, a man can dream can't he? :15:

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

Engl Savage, Soldano SLO, and Splawn Nitro.

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

Sirjack, are you familiar with these? This is the very latest one. It'll do a Laney and a Matamp....AND go cleanish, which is something Hovercrafts don't do often.

Prices are ridiculously low. I think this one is a 20w head for $650.

YES . . . thank you . . . i deff do know the brand.

"we" are facebook 'friends'.

So i get almost daily updates of what is going on, in the Hovercraft camp.

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

my dream amp for just high gain tones would be a Soldano Hot Rod 100...

I too, like the Soldano-tone (...more the SLO, but Soldano in general is rocking !)

Not all are the Hot Rod 100, but Soldano non the less . . .

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

Ahh, didn't mean to copy you. Once I looked over the second page I saw our mutual love for the Mark V. Someday brother, someday.

What made me love the Hot Rod 100 in the first place was learning Daniel Johns used one live and for the Silverchair album Freak Show.... crazy good high gain tones

Heh-heh-heh

I like 5150's.

I want a white KT88 SLO-clone...

Re: What's your Holy Grail of High Gain?

I forgot my pedal hi-gain tone. If anyone's seen me post on other fave-tone threads, it will come as little surprise.
HM2, tone knobs dimed. Futzing around with the volume and gain gives a wider variety of tones with a ton of face and thick, boxy anger...but it's mainly 10/10/10/10 for proper usage. See Carnage, Entombed, Dismember, other Swedes.

A Soldano in Oz must have cost them an arm and a leg !!!
Down Under is NOT the cheapest place in the world when you are looking at musical instruments.
