What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

It varies. A lot of the time it's just Roland cube 30. When I feel the need for serious tonal mojo:

79 LP Standard (480R/DD), Epi LP (PG/CC), or 96 LP Studio (P-90's) =>
Stamps Drive-O-Matic =>
[Occasionally a TS-9 set for boost] =>
[I'd like to add an Ibanez AD-9 Delay right here]
[Occasionally Guyatone Tremolo, I'd prefer a Dunlop or Voodoo Lab]=>
Electro-harmonix Holy Grail Reverb =>
Fender Pro Jr. (Emininece Alnico Blue Speaker)

GHS 10's, D'addario Delrin pick (Yellow)

And every now and again....an old Thomas Organ Company Stereo Volume/Wah/Fuzz Crybaby....Through which one can easily channel the spirit of Jimi.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

So far I see fascinating choices. Lew and Gearjoneser win as usual (figures) in terms of insane rigs with tone that cost more than a heart transplant.

I am really curious about the 1 ) tri axis 2) Voodoo Modded 2204 3) V Twin thru the Marshall.

A couple of people had some wild mixes of SD pups.
I love that people are mixing Customs, APHs, 59s, etc etc.

A lot of people using MIJ strats in here - I am another!

live stuff...using mostly Gibsons these days (LP R6, LP Special, older 335, a few 40's/50's Gibson or Guild archtops)...I drag an old 80's RI Strat around, but almost never use it. Big strings, heavy picks, high action...

..into a '54 Deluxe/'56 Twin/'59 Pro/'60 Bandmaster/FMI BF Pro Reverb depending on the gig...the only pedal I use is an old Morley analog reverb.

recording...almost anything goes.

pix plz!

me, i pick 1 of my gtrs, & 1 of my cables, & plug it into 1 of my amps. f**k all that other noize.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

Things are simple here.When going live i take 2 of these
Steinberger GR4 (C/59 A2 hybrid,fender 80's single coil,hot rails neck)
Krammer Nightswan (C,no middle,l'59n)
Ibanez '96 rg550 (paf pro,v1,paf pro)
'83 MIJ Stratocaster '54 reissue(fender scn sc set,active guitarfetish preamp)
and a Digitech GNX3000
I plug in whatever monitoring or amps are in the house.I sometimes carry a behringer ub802 and a shure E5 in ear set.
At home same set in a sony str db790 amplifier through a jbl surround system
playing 2.1.Except the GNX3000 I also record with some plugins such as Amplitube.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

mine is just my strat-->vox ad30vt. if i wanna use effects (which is pretty rarely nowadays) ill stick my dunlop wah->phase 90->EH small stone->chorus-> boss dd-6 delay pedal->amp. i find that i feel better playing straight through the amp because its more me and the guitar rather than having all the effects jazz up my sound. i used to be in love with effects though...ah they're fun at times

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

Custom Tele (59n-59b) or Strat (PGn-59b) into a Carvin XV-212 (EL-34's).
Boss DD-3 and Ibanez SC-10 in the loop. Nice and simple! I was using a 2-15 Showman cab but I've sold it and will be getting a Carvin 4-12 to match the amp.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

Ibanez SZ520QM electric
Modifications:
-Dimarzio Breed Neck (bridge-soon to be replaced w/Custom 5)
-Dimarzio PAF Joe (neck-soon to be replaced w/Jazz)
-Stock electronics replaced with Dimarzio parts (500k pots, Switch, Cap & Jack)
-Earvana nut
-Sperzel tuners
D'Addario EXL110 strings (10-46)
Dunlop Gator 2.0mm picks
Monster Cables
Dunlop Hendrix wah
Rocktron Replitone 212 combo
BBE Sonic Stomp (in loop)
That's it. Sounds pretty darn good too, especially for a "bedroom" rig.

Fingers
-I really like to fantasize about really being able to play without a pick

or

Dunlop 1.5mm sharp Tortex
-Chose them years ago, now I have a huge stash of them and I'm never without one

->

ESP M-II w/ '59 bridge and Jazz neck
-For the lighter or more versatile music I play

or

Gibson SG Standard w/ DMZ Tone Zone bridge and PAF Pro neck
-For the thicker and darker sounds

->

Proco Lifelines
-I get them easily around here

->

Koch Twintone II Combo
-All that I need in a simple package
-Great sound, two channels w/ a boost and a nice reverb too

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

Kramer Pacer Deluxe APS-1 singles and a PGb.
HW-1 strat, mapleneck, SE singles, APH-2b.
Tokai STD80 strat, Hybrid JB/59 A2, and a SSL-2b as neck pickup.
Wolfgang, APH-2n, Screamin' Demon.
Main amp is a Hiwatt DR201 through a 4x12 cab with GH12 30's.
Or a CM customshop 50 combo.
One CM Rooster 55 combo with a single Jensen speaker.
AC-15 clone with an AC-30 preamp.
Fender Bassmann 100 head, defunkt right now.
Selmer T&B 50 also defunkt, need new caps in the preamp.
Park 75, dead powersupply, gotta get that one up and running.
A sh!tload of various speakers and stompboxes, and alot of other strange stuff.
And I need more Hiwatts, want a DR103 and DR504:D

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

My gear is fairly "basic", but I'm responding as I wanted to see this thread keep going.

Guitars: MIJ 335 (1981) copy by Greco and a MIK Epiphone Joe Pass jazz box

Amps: '76 Princeton Reverb and a '67 Super Reverb (the Super sounds great but is nothing pretty to look at)

I'm constantly looking at pedals...never seem to be able to find the combination that will give me the exact tone I want. A typical problem for many of us. Good for the gear industry though!!

Great thread. Thanks.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

Fender Strat 1970's Reissue with Little '59 in bridge
Fender Blues Deluxe Amp
Big Muff USA
Tube Screamer
Digitech Whammy
DD3

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

my typical gig rig is:

fender strat w/ surfers (tuned down 1 step)
custom two humbucker chambered body tele/lp thing w/seth & bb (tuned down 1 step)
custom strat w/ pups i wound
custom lp w/ neck pup i wound/bridge bb
custom strat w/ texas hots tuned open E

spina wah
vox valvetone
boss tuner
whirlwind a/b/y
h&k rotosphere

'66 fender deluxe reverb
celtic aislinn 6v6

the dr is cleaner, louder and stays on all the time. the aislinn is set on kill and only switched on for a fat lead tone, it doesnt really add much if any volume but it adds a huge dose of thickness in the mids.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

ready for the monster rig???

Guitars:
ESP LTD MV-200 with JB in the bridge and Duncan Designed HR-101 in the neck
Ibanez GRX-40 with Duncan Designed HB-102B in bridge and Ibanez Powersound singles in Middle and Neck (this guitar is currently retired)
Applause/Ovation AE-28 for the acoustic stuff

Amps:
Ibanez GT-10

Effects:
Ibanez TM-5 Thrashmetal
DOD Stereo Flanger (sometimes)
Ibanez LF-7 LoFi (sometimes)

in a few months I plan to have:
Epiphone Les Paul Studio with Phat Cats
An amp ... Probably a Crate Head like I had a couple of years ago with a home made cab with a Celestion Custom 90.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

Now for a monumental task.

Would someone like to make an estimate/"guesstimate" of the total value of all this gear (present fair market value)

Starting with Lew's gear. Maybe more than his existing mortgage. (meant in good fun, Lew)
All being said, I'm fairly sure that he is one very happy camper.

In the past, there was another thread that asked for the amount that people had spent on their gear through time. most of them were very "surprised" with the bottom line.
Me included !!

I'm sure most of us will keep on shoppin and spendin.
GAS strikes when you least expect it.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

I've spent about $4,500.... yikes. But I am almost done. All I could really want for the rest of my life is a nice USA Strat, a Mark III head and cab and some new pups and a high quality effects unit.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

MIM Strat / a set of EMG-SA pickups -> Line6 otto filter -> DOD Milkbox Compressor -> Tech 21 Trademark 60 amplifier

Effects loop on amp
Boss Tu2 Tuner -> Boss TR-2 Tremolo -> Boss CH-1 Chorus -> Boss DD-5 Delay

I'm getting my Peavey Generation modded now with a new JB / SSL-4 / SSL-5. I'm excited about getting that back and running it through my setup. My Strat really gives me a great Strat sound and now I'm hoping I'll get a lot more !!umph!! with my modded peavey.

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

I am basically a blues rock kind of player. So here is my short list.

Guitars

Eric Clapton Strat. I prefer this over others that I have because of the neck. I also use a 57RI Strat that I have equipped with Texas Hots. On some occasionas I will use a Telecaster. My HB guitars are a 335, Les Pauls and a SG. I have a Thinline Tele that is equipped with 2 HB also.

Amps

Marshall 900 50W combo that I a/b with a siver face Super reverb.
In the super I have a CE2, DD3 and a spina TS9. In the Marshall I have a DOD TR3 that I run thru the loop and a Bluesbreaker pedal to push the Marshall a little more. I have the gain set farily low about 5.

I also have a Wah that I can run thru either amp.

For rehearsals I use a Deluxe Reverb with the same effects that I run thru the SR.

I love this setup..... it works very well for what I do. I have been using this for quite a while now. However I just bought a Bogner Shiva and the Amp is very impressive. I am hoping that this will be my go to amp. I have had it about a month now and the amp is great, but I haven't really got it dialed in perfectly yet. I have only played thru it a few times so far. The sound is there for me I just have to work with it a little more!

Re: What's your RIG? This means you LEW.

Gibson SG Standard (CC b/ stock n) >>>> Mesa Subway Rocket Combo (EL84s)

Its a great rig for hard rock

I also have an Ibanez Noodles Signature guitar with a Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge position (just installed it, having mixed feelings, but overall its a wierd pickup, and its fun to play around with because the SG is my main guitar)

Pedals (which I never use)
Dunlop Crybaby
MXR Doubleshot Distortion (really good but the amps distortion is still better)

Picks/Strings (incase anyone is still reading mine and hasn't skipped over to look at a more expensive rig)
Dunlop Ultex picks (hate the feel of anything else now)
Ernie Ball Strings (10's on SG, 11's on Ibanez)
