Re: which color for my cabronita build?

Do you have a pic of the guitar? that would be helpful & I apologize if you already posted one.

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

That purple looks pretty awesome. Would look great on that body with the amber tinted neck (complimentary colors). Gold bridge, tuners, and speed knobs would add to that complimentary theme.

Is that ash?

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

I really like the Reranch crown royal purple, pictures folks have posted on the Reranch website have me thinking about another build using that color.

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

Wow, you really got the building bug, eh ? That's great, it's really cool having serious input into your own instrument(s).

My vote would be for the copper red, but any of those colours would look great.

Please forgive me if you know this already, but any metallic colour will require a few clear coats on top (non-metallic colours can benefit from clear over the top too, but it's a must for metallics). Also you'll need to apply the metallic finish with random spray patterns, not straight lines ... I use a tight figure-eight pattern and move that around in a random fashion, but mindful of trying to keep an even thickness. The idea is to have the metallic particles land randomly so that they reflect light randomly rather than in 'bands' caused by straight-line spraying. After the final metallic coat, apply the first clear coat as soon as possible to prevent the surface particles from oxidising and appearing 'grey' later.

Not trying to sound overbearing or 'know-it-all', but i had to learn these things the long, hard way, so if it can help you get the best results possible, it's all good. If you already knew this stuff, please ignore it.

I think this one is gonna be very stylish. Clean and classy. Got a bridge pickup in mind ?

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

Dang! My Warmoth Cabronita project is still in cardboard cartons. I went for Dodge Charger Green.

EDIT - The obvious pickup would be a TV Jones Classic but a hotter variant could be interesting. (This is what the original Fender Custom Shop LCT Junior had. An S-1 switch selected between output levels.)

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

im thinking a powertron for the bridge pup. I was planning on using minwax lacquer as the clear coat. I just noticed a freaking ding in the body tho. it apparently was done by warmoth or by ups. Ugggrrrr...so...i contacted warmoth and I am awaiting a reply. Is this something that can be fixed with a lil wood filler so that it would not be noticable?IMG_1616.jpgIMG_1631.jpgIMG_1639.jpg

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

There is a corresponding mark in the flap of the carton. I suspect rough handling by the courier.

You could always disguise the ding by cutting a forearm contour.

I think it was Ups that was at fault as well. I am thinking a lil wood filler should work. Its looking like the choice for white is out unless its a solid white.

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

Steam that dent out with a soldering iron and a damp rag. Practice on another piece of wood beforehand to learn how to do it wihout making burn marks. It's actually very simple and works great.

(actually you could probably use the tip of a clothes iron instead of a soldering iron given the location of the ding)

I've wanted to paint a guitar in that purple for a while, but on this guitar, I would use arctic white (or Dakota red).

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

I steamed the dent right out. amazing how that works. I would never have thought of something like that. Thanks a bunch.IMG_1641.jpgIMG_1642.jpg

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

I'd love a Cabronita in any of those colours, but I think the red just edges it for me...

Im very fond of the red myself. I have chrome hardware for it already which I think would look good on any of the colors...but im torn. LOL

Nice work and great result. Just keep an eye on it for a couple of days ... as the moisture dries away, the fibres may shrink back a little, in which case, just steam it again.

Thanks, will do. Oh and to help with the color votes, this is the neckplate im going with and a good shot of the headstockIMG_1646.jpgIMG_1611.jpg

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

That is a very cool looking neck plate!!!

Where did you get it and how much was it?

Re: which color for my cabronita build?

This is gonna look better than your last. I think I would match the headstock so the grain is showing, black hardware and no pickguard. Will a soapbar fit that route? If so a Duncan p-90 stack wold be killer.
