which wah do u prefer

Re: which wah do u prefer

I actually really like very few wahs to be hoenst...Dunlops just suck eggs IMO, the reiussue Vox pedals are not much if any better and I have never liked Morley pedals...I do dig the tones of the Fulltone alright althought it feels funny under my foot and is over priced IMO, the Teese stuff is great but also costs a lot, there are also a few small name boutique guys out there doing custom wahs and custom wah mods that have killer sounding pedals. The best budget sounding wah IMO is the Budda...sounds great, looks cool and doesn't cost as much as the Fulltone or a Teese...

Re: which wah do u prefer

I like my Morely bad horsie...I think it depends on the music you play, I prefer a subtle wah just to add alittle flavor to leads usually a slow sweep that maxes out,or bottoms on the root notes does it for me.
I prefer a very subtle chorus too... IMO if you cant tell you have it on until you turn it off, its the perfect pedal

Re: which wah do u prefer

Only really tried my Dunlop Cry Baby. I've heard a couple others, don't like the Morleys, haven't heard Vox's, and Boss V Wahs, though huge in flexibility, didn't impress me much in tone. I want to try a Digitech Expression Factory, that looks like it has some cool wahs!! (as well as other goodies!)

i like my crybaby...never really messed with any other wahs

Crybaby works well for me, I wish I'd checked out the crybaby multi-wah though for more control over the size of the sweep.

You stock Crybaby wah users are "really" missing out on the very vocal qualities of a boutique wah! Not to mention the overall sweep...A stock newer CB is just a terrible lacking wah in my opinion!

Clyde is killer, IMO. Great sounding wah...if I did it again I might go Deluxe just for the LED. My wah is in a Keeley looper and its always on so I don't have issues with switching and know when it is engaged. I used to have a Bad Horsie, and I loved the way it automatically turned on and off. The tone was bland beyond belief compared to the Clyde...

Re: which wah do u prefer

I've been through several Wahs so far(Dunlop Crybaby, Crybaby from hell, 535q, Morley, Bad Horsie) and now i've settled for the Morley Tremonti powerwah.. I love the switchless feature, the tone and the integrated gain boost

Re: which wah do u prefer

ive had a snarling dogs wah for like 3 years, best wah ive played. true bypass, and just as cheap as the the others.

Re: which wah do u prefer

I really like my Dunlop 535Q. When I bought it I compared it to Buddha, Tech 21, Vox, and a couple of other models of Crybabys . . . and could find settings to get the same sounds from the 535Q. It also hasn't let me down in three or four years of constant use . . .

Re: which wah do u prefer

I have three wahs: Dunlop Crybaby Classic, 535Q and Behringer HellBaby HB-01. I also played a Dime CryBaby From Hell in the shop where I bought my 535Q. I must say that sonically, CFH is the best and the most versatile. But it doesn't have true bypass. Behringer HB-01 is a cheaper copy of DB-01, it is very similar sonically, but the build quality is lower. But hey, what do you want for $30?
535Q is thinner sounding than DB-01, but it has true bypass, that's why I bought it.
And Crybaby Classic sounds just like Kirk Hammett. I don't like its original sound, so I modified it with Q-mod and gain-mod, so now it sounds closer to 535Q with lower Q settings.

My vote goes to Dunlop Dime wah (does anyone know if they make it now with true bypass?).

Re: which wah do u prefer

A friend claims that Dimebag wah is the best out there right now. I haven't tried it myself.

A had a Morley Fuzz/Wah/Vol pedal for years. It was able to make some decent sounds, but I always hated it. I gave it away.

My old CryBaby from the mid '70s has been taken apart for years. I bought a new pot for it, and I have to get around to putting it back together, and wiring it up again. I remember it as being a bit thin sounding though. I've got a website bookmark somewhere about basic wah mods that might help though. One of the mods that looked promising was changing the inductor coil's resistor to give it a more vocal tone.

Re: which wah do u prefer

I have had SOOO many wah's...

I have had original Clyde's... Dunlop Crybaby's, Jimi Hendrix Wah, DOD FX17, 535Q (original 4 setting versus 6), Crybaby from Hell, & Mutron Wah/Volume...

The one that I use live has been the Crybaby from Hell because it can adapt to my needs... I have used so many other brands... I have had original Wah's and some sound really great and others are mediocre... my favorite series of wahs has been the Dunlop Crybaby Wah's that were released prior to 1984 w/ the power adapter jack built in.

I have a Mutron Wah and that is AMAZING.. but it does a couple specific things that other wahs don't do... it isn't the same kind of animal.. I liked the sweep range of the DOD and it had a different feel.. I just never liked the Morley or feel for the Morley..

The Dimebag is really versatile... and it isn't limited to metal playing.. you can change all the parameters and the width of the sound. The Zakk Wah sounds like @$$ and you are better off getting a Vox stock Dunlop Wah, or Snarling Dogs instead of that piece of $hit. The Pink Dunlop Wahs sold at Guitar Center sound better... the Slash Wah is mediocre also... at best.

Re: which wah do u prefer

I used to own Morley, Crybaby, Dan-o-wah etc.
But now that I bought the new Crybaby from hell, all the others will be given away for free. yeah its that stinkin good.

Versatile, adjustable, seriously it is that good.
