whose your favorite telecaster player?

Re: whose your favorite telecaster player?

Robben Ford and Steve Morse (if you consider his old guitar a Tele).

We also left out Jeff Beck...Muddy Waters was great....Damn! :smack:

personally, i consider jeff beck a strat player, he might have used a tele once, but he was a strat player, imo.

Re: whose your favorite telecaster player?

muddy waters was a great tele player
Jimmy Page's tele sounds amazing and like a les paul
A lot of these newer country players are using teles and sound really good, Keith Urban was one that caught my eye or ear is more like it.
I can't leave out Keith Richards either
the guy in my avatar, Jeff Tweedy can play a decent tele and Jakob Dylan strums his tele pretty well, but i like his songs more than his actual playing.

Re: whose your favorite telecaster player?

Here's an obscure one:

Leo Nocentelli, guitarist for the Meters. Used a fender starcaster from the late 70s onward, and uses an es335 today, but all the original Meters classics (and almost all the funky session work in New Orleans) were cut on a tele.

Interesting trivia:

The Meters opened for the Stones in the early 70s. Keef saw Leo playing a tele custom, and got one himself. That's how Keef became a tele player.

Oh, and Cornell Dupree.

Funky as hell tele on over 2500 records.

Re: whose your favorite telecaster player?

How about Joe Messina of Motown Funk Brothers fame!!
Maybe even Bruce Springsteen (Esquire I think?).
My favorite has really gotta be Albert Collins though..and of course "The Humbler" for sheer choppage!!

What songs did Billy play a tele on?

A few here and there, mostly on the first few albums. If you go to www.riograndepickups.com, he's listed as an endorser of Rio Grande Tele pickups, so he must still record with one now and then. To be honest, I don't know for sure which particular songs he used a Tele on, but I do know for sure that he played one.

In recent years he's used fender custom shop esquires live. That's close enough to a tele to me.
