I'm glad someone finally mentioned Jimmy Bryant, who was perhaps the first Tele player and an awesome one at that. So many geat players have opted for a Tele, as the listings above attest. Some of the new country guys are outstanding, as is Alvin Youngblood Hart from down here in Memphis.
Danny Gatton was amazing, but he wears me thin in a hurry. I prefer Roy Buchanan's early Polydor work for pure tone, and Jimmy Page's tone and note selection on Stairway remains special despite the song being played to death. And you can't say enough about the rhythm playing and fills of Keith Richards and Steve Cropper. But in the end, I'd have to say that my favorite Tele player is Albert Collins. I can't think of any guitarist who has done more with fewer frets than the Iceman.
