wiring 2 humbuckers with 5 way S.Switch + split problem

Hi guys.
Just got the PATB1 and PATB3 and went to wire them on my axe, I'm trying to do the following wiring using a 5 way super switch 1 volume, 1 tone:

Pos 1 - Humbucker (full)
Pos 2 - Humbucker + Neck (inner coils ON)
Pos 3 - Humbucker + Neck (full)
Pos 4 - Humbucker + Neck (outer coils ON)
Pos 5 - Neck (full)

I used this diagram.

The wiring is almost what I'm looking for, the difference over this diagram is that in both 2+4 it splits ONLY the outer OR the inner coils.

I soldered al the wires according to this diagram and Position 1, 3, 5 work good.
For some reason I can't get the splitting correct.
Position 2 split only the bridge (nothing from the neck)
Position 4 split only the neck (nothing from the bridge).
Please advise, I will highly appreciate a diagram if possible.

Thanks.

This this:

Ideally, you wouldn't tie the splits together like this, but IIRC, those points act like a virtual null point & you can get away with it.

I believe that I have drawn up (on paper) a better way to do this setup, but you'll have to give me a little time to come up with a computer drawing of it. In the mean time, try what I've put here & see if it works properly.

Re: wiring 2 humbuckers with 5 way S.Switch + split problem

OK, I have a drawing of the "proper" way to wire this. I'll draw it up with Visio later today.

Re: wiring 2 humbuckers with 5 way S.Switch + split problem

Thank you!
don't work too hard, i can use a "hand drawing" as well if its faster and easier for you
Thanks

ps, is it a big diference from the one above ?

Ok, tried the above diagram, unfortunately its not working…
I'll wait for your other one.
Thanks

Re: wiring 2 humbuckers with 5 way S.Switch + split problem

I recently ran into a similar problem in a 90's Pacifica with Dimarzio pups. Yamaha had used Dimarzio pickups but the Superswitch was NOT so the diagrams were all wrong! Different superswitches are wired differently internally and require another diagram.
Is your Superswitch Seymour Duncan?

Re: wiring 2 humbuckers with 5 way S.Switch + split problem

Well, the results are strange…
I got 2 positions where the bridge both coils are on, and another position which sounds difference (bridge), no neck or split though.
Anyway, its night time here in Israel… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Please post the other drawing you have mentioned and I'll try it tomorrow and update.
Thanks a lot.

Re: wiring 2 humbuckers with 5 way S.Switch + split problem

There must be some numbers on the side of the Superswitch, some go 054321 543210, others go 123450012345. Check your switch and the numbers of a SeymourDuncan switch and change the diagram to accommodate the numbers.

For me the solution was checking a Dimarzio diagram here http://www.dimarzio.com/support/wiring-diagrams#1-4-3-8-1

and checking the Dimarzio numbers here http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/default/files/diagrams/ep1112.pdf
I just re-made the diagram with the new order of numbers.

Now, since the outside coils together will be a brighter tone than the inside coils together, I've taken the liberty of giving you an alternative to put the brighter tone in position 2 & the darker tone in position 4 - more like the normal Strat tone sequence:

Well, I think I'm missing something...
I tried the last diagram but it went out all mixed though….

first i would like to make sure regarding the pups side, pls have a look at the diagram, did i marked the pups correct according to the way you have designed it ?

I wired according to the last diagram you have posted and what i get is totally upside down so i think either I'm confusing the pup side or the 5 way s.switch is upside down or....i don't know.

This is what i have now:

Position 1 should be bridge but it is neck
3 is ok - both full pup are ON
Position 5 should be neck but it is bridge

Position 2+4 gives either the back (bridge side) coils ON of both pups, or the front (neck side) both pups ON

This is a pic of the s.switch:

Yes, my drawing has the neck pup on the left & the bridge pup on the right.

In your pic, is left towards the neck of the guitar & right towards the bridge?

Position 1 is considered the pocition where the lever is all the way back towards the bridge. Position 5 is all the way forward towards the neck.

no, left = bridge, right = neck

exactly

Re: wiring 2 humbuckers with 5 way S.Switch + split problem

OK. so the super switch should be soldered in my guitar upside down.
im going to try it npw
thanks
