Wood covering over the top of a open cover pickup , good or bad

I've found open top covers change the tone more vs full covers. An inert insert shouldn't make any further difference at all.

The biggest issue will be that the pickups are farther from the strings because magnetically they are transparent.

So if I understand you correctly the only difference would be slightly less output because the pickup is slightly lower with the wood in between the bobbins and strings .

There were a few companies over the years that experimented with wood covers too. Those were nice.

I've seen some nice looking flamed maple covers for Strat pickups, and some no-hole ones for humbuckers.
I think they were from Guilford, where I got my wood pickup rings.

The Duncan CS actually turned me on to these covers when I called and asked about buying extra covers .
The guy was real nice and suggested to go to Philadelphia Luther website and I could get these and some black covers .
SD said they offer high quality parts and highly recommended them .

Oh, thanks for the tip- that's good to know!
