Has anyone played the Yngwie Malstreem strat yet? Forthose of ypu who have, it's great isn't it. The only thing that is weird about it is the Scalloped Neck on it, it feels really weird. :laugh2:

"I'm going to drink beer and stay out all night"

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

Barring the Scalloped board it was the most Strat Like Strat I've ever owned. Tonally and feel-wise.

I've not owned a ton of strats, but the YJM was far better than any of the "standard" MIA guits from the 80s/90s/2Ks I owned.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I own a Malmsteen Strat and i love it. it has a lot of vintage mojo to it and i love the scalloped neck for the very expressive vibrato you can do with it. It feels solid as a rock and and it looks classy. if you can live with the scalloped board it's one of the best fenders out there imo.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I found Malmsteen in a ditch. He says he could play, but I don't believe a word that comes out of his fat mouth.

:laugh2:

I'm still looking for a scallopped board to try out.

Does he have a good recipe for cheesecake, too? :laugh2:

I too would like to try one. They seem interesting, definitly cool for vibrato.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

anytime i see the word fat i immediately think back to the day i was youtubing and saw a comment under a video that had the words " that fat **** malmsteen " in it. i get quite the kick out of trying to immagine what that guy would actually sound like saying that. it ususaly takes up 10 minutes of my day.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I've played them in stores a couple of times. I was surprised how well the scalloped board worked. I thought I wouldn't be able to play at all, but I adjusted pretty quick...

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

"All of this is very nice, Yngwie... but the thing is I don't see the point, so why don't you shove it up your fat ass?".

"OH DON'T BE SUCH A PUSIE".

"I don't care Yngwie, shut up".

OH, my Epi Strat is scalloped, does it count? :blackeye: :chairfall
I know it doesn't.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

they are really nice guitars.

problem is the scalloped fingerboard. some people dont buy em cause of that.

I think that Fender should offer these guitars with the option of scalloped and non-scalloped.
i mean how many players have a scalloped board???!
silly they didnt think about this in the first place, or even second place when the newer edition model came out.

i am positive it would up their sales in a huge way.

+1 it would definitely be a big selling guitar without the scalloping, but without that it wouldn't be a malmsteen strat anymore, but something completely different.

I do. Not on a Strat though. As a Strat, it isn't scalloped board- I don't like the big headstock or the pickups.
As was said, I am sure Yngwie would pull the plug on the model if it didn't have the scalloped board. Take that away, it would be fairly easy to transmute any strat to Yngwie specs- like most current signature models, there just aren't that many differences from a production model. It is the board that really makes it different.
I always liked the 2nd generation Blackmore strat much better, but that was a pretty radical change from a normal strat (set neck, synth pickup, conical scallops, no middle pickup).

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

well, they could have the option. im sure that malmsteen would like to have more sales on his guitar!

there just arent that many guitarists out there that use these scalloped boards thats all. sales would increase by 20% at least i think. and that is totally conservative.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I dont think he cares about the sales on his guitar much- it is expensive, yes, but the scalloping keeps the price over $1300, and without, it is a 70s style strat with different pickups, and nothing more. I don't think Fender should water down the signature series any more- they have 300 other strats to choose from if you dont like the scalloping (which totally rocks, btw).

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I like the idea of offering it without a scalloped board. Yngwie plays Strats without scalloped boards, too. I think we should be an option to buy it with or without a scalloped neck. If it's such a great guitar, why not let guys who love vintage guitars try it out? If it didn't have a scalloped board, they probably would. Fender certainly isn't famous for building modern guitars...

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

I didn't like the scalloping either. If they offered a non-scalloped model, I'd buy it. But you know...

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

Without scallop= not a yngwie signature strat, just buy a 70's style and put dimarzios in it. Mind you the Fender classic 70's strat has a "u" neck rather then the mod C BUT they do offer other big headstocked guitars with the mod C.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

i've tried it a few times but i didn't like it all that much. couldn't really point out what i didn't like about it but it just didn't feel good to me.

Re: Yngwie Malstreem Strat

ive played it a few times on a local Guitar Center, and i have to say i did like it. It only took me a few minutes to get adjusted to the scalloped neck, and the tone was better than i thought it would be.
