Your Current Setup

Re: Your Current Setup

What no wah pedal? :laugh2: Shame on you Lew! :laugh2:

The Vox Wah you re-made for me sounds fabulous...just as nice as my Fulltone Clyde....but I don't use effects unless someone asks me to. :) Don't need 'em...

Re: Your Current Setup

Lately....

Strat or Tele into my modded Vox 847 wah..... CM Plexitone pedal,TS 808,RAT,Jackhammer,Verbzilla,Boss Low Impdedence Volume pedal...INTO

My NMV 50 watt Marshall head into a Vox VT 2x12 cab with V30s...I keep my Marshall clean and at lower volumes and pretty much have to get my tones from my effects or the clean Marshall tones(Which are almost BF clean)in my amp....Or 59 Bassman clean but with reverb from the Verbzilla....:laugh2:

We cover alot of different styles from blues,to Classic Rock,Alternative stuff(covers) and I need some effects really to get the versatility....Another reason I use my Vox Valvetronix head most when we gig....Lately I'm in 100% Marshall mode again...The pedals allows me to keep my volume down and still get a pretty convincing tone overall:laugh2:

Re: Your Current Setup

Off topic: It's funny. I havent been using my Big Muff lately, but now thats is back in the chain I remember why I love it so much. Funny how you can just forget how something sounds.

Re: Your Current Setup

My live guitars change as my mood does and depending on the set my band plays etc, but its usually atleast 2 of the following live:

1998 Gibson Les Paul Standard (Bareknuckle Mule pickups)
1993 USA Fender Standard Strat (Bareknuckle Crawler/Irish Tour/Irish Tour Pickups)
Gordon Smith custom made Graduate60 (Bareknuckle Black Dog bridge and Riff Raff neck pickups)
70's 'Unknown' Japanese Strat (Bareknuckle Mothers Milk pickups)
Charvel Fusion Special (Bareknuckle Cold Sweat and Trilogy Suite pickups)
Gould Telecaster (Bareknuckle Piledriver bridge pickup)
Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet (stock Gretsch Mini Humbuckers)

For amps its usually a combination of:

Orange AD30 30w Head
Marshall JCM 800 2210 100w Twin Channel amp head
Marshall JTM60 60w Combo (used as a 1x12 cab with my Orange head)
70's Orange 4x12 cab with 2 25w Celestion Greenbacks and 2 25w McKenzies (currently kept in my bands practise room)
Marshall 1936 2x12 speaker cab with 2 75w Celestions

My pedalboard is:

Stratdeluxer modded Vox 847 Wah--Marshall ED1 Compressor (used purely as a volume boost to balance out levels between single coil/humbucker guitars)--BOSS TU2 Pedal Tuner--Fulltone Fulldrive II--G2D Custom Overdrive--BOSS CE5 Chorus--BOSS TR2 Tremolo--Ibanez DE7 Delay/Echo--MXR Phase 90--Fulltone Fat Boost (solo boost)

In the future:

When I can stop being lazy and finally get around to building a new pedalboard it'll have my pedals as above but with the inclusion of a custom made WOBO 3 channel looper, which will go after the G2D and before the Fat Boost.

Loop 1 of the Looper will be the Chorus and Tremolo
Loop 2 will be an Electro Harmonix Small Stone Nano and MXR Phase 90 Phasers
Looop 3 will be the Delay

And that's it :)

Wow buddy.....And I thought I had too many pedals on my board! :laugh2:

Re: Your Current Setup

There'd be too many if I didn't actually use them all atleast once in a 40minute set of our own songs ;) :D

You sound like me....Trying to cover alot of ground! We go from playing Cream,to a Mellancamp or Billy Joel tune, and then to like Pearl Jam or 3 Doors Down and then we'll do some strict blues stuff like SRV etc...:smack:

Yeah, I try to cover alot of ground tonally :)

We're a 2 guitar, bass, drums and keys band, but the other guitarist generally uses a horrrible sounding guitar thru a POD (the whole thing sounds like poo to me :D) but just lately we've started branching out into slightly 'heavier' sounding stuff, so the pedals are there so I can add something other than doubling up on rhythm parts etc :)

Re: Your Current Setup

When I asked bruce to make me an Aurora with two 6L6 tubes, he made it with two KT-66 tubes instead. :smack: Not what I wanted...though it is a great sounding amp.
Was that the one you were playing through when we jammed at the Dallas Guitar Show? That amp just sounded INCREDIBLE!!! Talk about girth. That thing has loads of it.

Re: Your Current Setup

Off topic again: I just got the most violent lead tone ever. It sounds like battery acid. It sounds like Michio Kurihara does on Rainbow by Boris.

Exactly why I like my AD50VT combo. You've got a lot more options in the AD120 head though. I've set mine up to use the JCM800 model on all presets. Preset 1 = cleanish (some dirt), Preset 2 = full boar gain, Manual mode = same as P2 but with more volume for some leads. Then I just switch between different guitars to accomodate the song, flip the Phase 90 on here and there and that's it. So I guess I've gone in to Marshall mode too, in a way. :laugh2:

If I have to go backup, there's a Rangemaster clone waiting in the wings to slam it in to oblivion. :laugh2:

I can play every song our band does providing I can get close to these types of tones....

BF Fender clean
Marshall Plexi Crunchy almost JCM 800 type gain though
Boogie warm singing Santana style lead tone sound
Vox AC 30TB for Tom Petty type stuff set for clean to lightly overdriven
Soldano/Modern Marshall Higher Gained tones for the newer alternative stuff..

The Valvetronix head is great and given it's versatilty,I'm able to do all of these tones....It's harder with the Marshall head or my BF Pro Reverb combo to get all this though...

Same here. My clean is the low gain 800 with the guitar volume rolled back. No matter how many times I try to get used to a BF-type clean, I can't. Everything else is covered. If I have to, I'll switch the manual mode to the Soldano model for a song. Depends on how it's going.

And speaking of setups, I gotta get to the venue for setup and soundcheck. First gig with the new band tonight.
