Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

Killer setup.... lovin that Hamer!

Thanks! I lucked up with that one. Korean before they started putting slammer and other logos that set them aside of the USA models. I've owned a few and none has the thin neck this one does. Plus, it's a pure chunk/sludge monster. JB-B '59-N.

That boogie brings the thunder too. I love 'em.

BTW: Checked out your youtube link to your band. Hate we're not in the same area. I'd be asking if you needed yet another guitarist. Love the stuff!

Right now, I'm in love with my 80 ML with Wilde L600s >> FJA modded Metaltronix M-1000 >> Weber Mass 100 on around 5 with the high boost at 3db >> Metaltronix Killer Kab.

Just for sh*ts and grins I thought I'd throw in my original "fave guitar & amp combo". When I first started gigging out I had a custom made Roscoe guitar (marble with a reverse headstock), a marchall jcm 900 and an original turbo rat.

Boy, how things change.

Thanks a lot man I really appreciate that I love the band I'm in now :) ... I got a Mesa Lonestar Special and man Boogie amps are amazing its a 4x10 too which is my ideal speaker setup. Yours looks insane aswell I have never heard of the model but I'm not really up on all the old Mesa Boogies

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

No problem. I give props were they're due. Nice to hear something that's not souther rock or nu metal. For whatever reason that has been the norm in my area for way too long. Need a more sludgy scene here.

That mesa wasn't made long I don't think. There's another message board grailtone.com I think. They have an excellent board and all kinds of info on whatever mesa you have. Lots of mods for 'em too but I'm pretty happy with mine as is. I do miss my Mark III though. It was a beast. One trick pony but good at what it did. Good, thick and peanut buttery. The DC-5 I have now covers way more territory though. Independent clean is more my thing these days.

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

yeah seems like where I am now its a lot of Indie pop bands but we are trying to change that ;)

I hear you on the cleans, I look for a good clean now in amps and use pedals for everything else because I have never played an amp where I was really wowed but its own distortion channel. Amplifiers natural breakup is a different story though there are several amps that I love their breakup like Ampeg guitar amps and vintage Traynors.

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

Right now it's a Mesa Express + 5:50 and an HH Strat.

Is it me or do all guitars just look sexier next to a Boogie? LOL! Tight strat btw.

Grosh EJ with a Blown 59 or a Grosh NOS with 60's Fats into an RJS Amplification 6850.

When I had it, an SG plugged into a Traynor YCV-40 was pure magic for me!

I've been pedal-free for some time now so it's anything through my Marshall JVM.

those JVMs RIP!... I was never a marshall fan or a half stack fan but going to my drummers other bands rehearsal and hearing him rip a PRS through one LOUD I loved it !

I was never a Marshall amp fan either, before the JVM came along that is. It's a very modern Marshall that wasn't removed from its roots. I like it enough to buy a smaller 1W version for practice

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

Wow this topic is a good one. Over the past 30 years ive been through alot of guitars and amps. For alot of that time I went direct into the amp. Does using a attenuator count? There are a handful that stand out as I think about it. These are not in any particular order.

Korina Jr. with custom shop evh 78 wound onto a p-90 base plate into a Victoria 5112. Current set-up. My only guitar and amp at this time. Not counting my Lovepedal 2 watt plexi battery operated amp.

Fender 52 reissue telecaster into a 1953 fender tweed deluxe.

Fender 52 reissue telecaster into a Victoria tweed bassman. Used a Weber Mass attenuator

Fender custom shop time machine 62 stratocaster reissue into a Victoria tweed bassman. Used a Weber Mass attenuator

Gibson 30th anniversary Les Paul into a 1973 Marshall 50 watt metal panel with 1974 Marshall 4x12 cab with creambacks. Used a Weber Mass attenuator

Gibson 1983 Les Paul 59 flametop reissue( now called prehistoric) into a Marshall JCM 2x12 combo

Oldworld slab board telecaster into Victoria 5112. Same guitar into a Marshall Vintage modern half stack.

amazing setups here... the 52' Tele into the Deluxe sounds awesome!

Re: Your Fave Guitar + Amp combo ... No effects

I've got a few different tones I'm really fond of.

My stock 2008 Son of a Gib Les Paul through my Marshall Vintage Modern combo sounds really spectacular. Same goes for my heavily modded MIM Strat with Alnico Pro II singlecoils and a Tone Zone (maybe not so much the TZ, as I'm not that into DiMarzio anymore).

But one of the most awesome sounds I know is my 1999 PRS Custom 22 on the coil tapped neck pickup through a beat to death early 70's silverface Super Reverb at the place where I used to rehearse and instruct guitar almost ten years ago, cranked to the max. That tone was the warmest, yet most scorching tone I've ever heard. I guess that's sort of why I don't like Engls. My favourite tones tend to come from amps that sound like they are at the verge of meltdown.
