When I was on my blackface Bassman kick I got an old Silvertone 45w or so with a 1x15 cab. While I really didn't like the sound of the 15" too much, it was pretty rockin' through both my 2x12 and 4x12. I used to call it my Bassman killer. It had a nice clean headroom area- and then it started to break up nicely between 4-7 at which point it would get saturated. The Bassmen (is that the plural of Bassman?) would start breaking up around 5 or 6 and be saturated at 6 or 7.

Head and cab for around $75.

15-30 watt tube combos with 12" speaker, my favorite setup
Blues Junior
Crate V1512 (I love this amp) or V3112 they may be crates but they kick ass
pretty much anything else in that feature set and price range rocks

screamingdaisy i commend your choice of amps. Crate tube amps with tone tubbies are awesome. I got my V1512 for $400 new with the tone tubby. Im still celabrating that price.
