Your favorite guitar cable?

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

Klotz cables in rolls, Neutrik plugs in packs, me with soldering gun in the hand. That's some 5-minutes solution and these cables never fail, last for a deace or perhaps more. Only problem is losing'em.

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

i've had my mogamis for a while. i've actually been meaning to get some neutrick angle connectors and mogami wire for a while and do up my whole pedal board and make a couple new cables, but that's for when i've got cash to throw around:)

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

Mogami in the Pro audio section Guitar Center. :approve:

:friday: add me to the mogami list. I also bought some neutrik gold angle connectors and mogami 2524 wire and redid my pedal board. Wound up selling the monster cables for the board at the same price i bought the neutriks and mogami wire. Well worth it.

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

I have a no name guitar cable from a local store. I don't know who made them or anything, but the thing has been kicking for about 7 years now.

I thought coil cables cut highs?

Mogami seems rad. I've seen some high end planet waves cables in shops locally. the prices are kind of steep. is it worth it?

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

I have never heard that before... I don't know why they would...

I've heard that, too. I guess it's because of the extra inductance of the coils, but I honestly don't know how much inductance you add with a coiled cable. It would be fun to model and calculate it, though.

I do know that coiled cables are fun and convenient. That can be scientifically proven.

Jesus... I didn't think of that!!!

time to get some coiled cables!!

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

I have so many different brands of cables I cannot remember the names right now. I do know I have a Fender tweed looking cable. They all sound the same to me.

Whichever one works.

...yeah. I feel the same way, really. I guess my quest for cables isn't really from an audiophile point of view. I just want some good quality ones that will last for a while.

vintage-style coiled cables cut highs

the cheaper, white plastic, $20 Fender Koil Kords are made to that spec...so you can use vintage-style gear with vintage-style cables and have correct tone. Using Monster Rock cables to plug your Les Paul with Antiquities into a Fender amp from the 60's doesn't sound right y'know? :smokin:

the more expensive, black plastic, $40 Fender Koil Kords have some kind of special wrap or shielding that keeps the highs present, plus they have a lifelong replacement warranty. :)

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

Many years ago I spent a few bucks on Spectraflex cables.

Haven't had to buy another cable since.

Spectraflex cables are great. You get you choice of custom colors, lengths, and optional "silent plugs".

When I'm not using the wireless, I'm using a Spectraflex cable. I use one of their Fatso Flex cables to connect my pedal board to my amp.

You know what I hate about coiled cables? If i have pedals on the ground, walking around drags them behind me!

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

I've been using planet waves cables for about five years now with no problems . . . they were noticeably better sounding than the crappy cables that I had been using. If anything does break I can take them back and get a new one, no questions asked.

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

Coreone CoreX2 cable.
Bullet proof

Corex2 is pretty amazing, although I just like the shorter ones on my pedal board, the long ones are so stiff, the bullet proof design also leads to a cable that doesn't like to lay nicely on the floor.

I recently bought a 15' EVH cable, haven't had any issue with it, although I was surprised how thin it was. Probably not rugged enough for live shows but good in the bedroom.

Re: Your favorite guitar cable?

I use George L's mostly. I have a Monster and a Spectraflex Fatsoflex. I've had the Fatsoflex for years and only used it a handful of times. I picked up the Monster when we were doing some outdoor gigs, so it's only been used a couple of times too, especially since I'm not with that band anymore.

I did get a Mogami from GC once, took it home and A/B'd it with a George L's, and took the Mogami back, the George was clearer.

I just got a CoreX2 pedal kit for free, going to try that our on my pedalboard. I think I need to go through and have a cable sale, I have a few really nice cables that are in almost new shape that I'm not using...
