Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

I have lots...I know this is an old post but it seemed like a great place to start...The SD track, King Tone Blues was recorded with Seymours Tele-gib but does anybody here know what amp and or pedals he used to get that ungodly sound?

Thanks

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Great Thread!
I am a newbie here, been reading quite often though. Anyway, here are my choices:

Jeff Beck - Space Boogie.
Jeff Beck - Seasons.
Jeff Beck - Space for the Papa.
Jeff Beck - Rice Pudding.
Jeff Beck - Plynth.
Yeah, I kind of like Beck.
Hendrix - All along the watchtower.
Hendrix - Still Raining, Still Dreaming.(Wow!)
Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Slight Return).
Hendrix as well.
McLaughlin - Birds of Fire.
Holdsworth - Tokyo Dreams.
Knopfler - Telegraph Road - Live.
Knopfler - Romeo and Juliet.
Clapton - Sittin' on top of the world.
Vai - Windows to the Soul.
Anything by Andres Segovia or Montoya.

Thanks.
CJM

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Any song David Gilmore has wrote or played or SRV.

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Eric Clapton in the Cream days, especially "White Room" or "Sunshine Of Your Love", which is my favorite song to play. Tony Iommi - the first 4 or 5 Black Sabbath albums.

Pete Anderson on the "Dwight Live" album, which is much more than a Country album - On several songs he's playing Strats and Teles through overdriven Fender Dual Professionals.

Any SRV.

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Great ones.

Here are a few of mine:
Brian May : Pretty much all of "The Game". Pretty much most of everything!!!
EVH: There are great tid-bit thru-out every VH recording, but "Fair Warning" has them all beat!!
Eric Johnson: the live version of "Manhatthen" from the G3 DVD. Pure Music. That and his "Tones" recordings.
John Williams : His classical tone on "The Baroque CD" is breath-taking.

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

The rythm guitar on Sheryl Crows "If It Makes You Happy". That's a real cool tone too. I don't know who was playing that guitar part though.

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Wilco - "I'm The Man Who Loves You"
BRMC - "In Like The Rose"
Pretty Girls Make Graves - "All Medicated Geniuses" (their entire self-titled album sounds great, but this song is a real standout for me)
PJ Harvey - "Long Snake Moan", "Kamikaze"
Pixies - the entire Trompe Le Monde album...
Bad Company - "Feel Like Makin' Love"

I like the tone on the song "My Favorite Mistake"...she's got some great session guys helping her out!

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Claptons Tone on the Bluesbreaker Album..... Any of it it is all good. When I think of the tone of a LP.... that's it.
Claptons Tone on Wheels of Fire (crossroads Live) A 335 played through a Marshall cranked. It doesn't get much better than that.
Hendrix ....... Machine Gun........ Unbelivable tone
Hendrix........ All along the Watchtower, The wind Cries Mary. Some of the best Clean tone I have ever heard. Thats why Plexis have that to die for tone!

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Another one of my favorites is the solo tone on Before You Go by Santana.

Re: Your Favorite Guitar Tones EVER!

Ezra and Stza Crack from Choking Victim, "Fxcked Reality"...Tele into a DS-1 into a Peavey Butcher, ultimate punk rock rhythm sound.

Kurt Ballou from Converge, "Towing Jahovah" and "Downpour" especially...palm mutes that punch you in the chest.

G. Amber Valentine from Jucifer...just because of the sheer volume and low-end she gets from her rig...she has so many 8x10 cabinets it takes up most of the stage, and i couldn't even count how many amps she had plugged in.

Rivers Cuomo from Weezer on the album 'Pinkerton'...every single song has awesome tone on this album.

Matt Fuchs from Curl Up and Die, especially "I Hate Almost Every Person I Come In Contact With" and "Nuclear Waste? Bring That Sh!t. (we want a state of radiated superheroes)" Les Paul into a Marshall with the gain knob in juuuust the right spot.

Ice and the Iced on "We've Had Enough"...sweet fuzzy bliss.

Connor Oberst from the Desaparecidos...something in the way they overdrive their Voxes just sounds awesome to me.

and Eighteen Visions have their Rectifiers dialed in just right...heh

Tom Morello just because you always know it's him, from the first note of the first riff of whatever song he's playing.

Jerry Cantrell...mmmmmm.

Jimmy Page just sounds cool all the time, i don't even think it would matter what he was playing with.

the Pixies' live tone...PERFECT. One dude with an LP and two Marshalls, another with a Tele and two Marshalls...

Jack White...makes my amp and pickups sound good :D

Agreed, Jack white gets alot of flack for his tone, but i dig it, and weezer's tone just really seems to suit thier music, same with choking victim.

I'm gonna add The Subways to the list aswell, nothin fancy, just a real good old fashioned rock tone.

Nice point on Kurt Ballou from Converge. That guy is a studio wizard. He gets amazing sounds.
