I am thinking of getting a new practice amp, i currently use the good ole 20w Fender Champ.

What is your favorite/current amp you like to use practice at low volume on?

Re: Your favorite practice amp

Fender AmpliTube on my iPhone, great tones and I can use my headphones. Also, you can practice with songs in your music library.

Re: Your favorite practice amp

I picked up a 20 watt Peavey Micro Bass for short money that sounds just fine for guitar. I got it for my bass guitar/keyboards, but it sounds fine with guitar also for running scales and such. My fun practice amp is my Fender Excelsior; I love that frigging thing.

Roland Cube 01 (New version)

Just gain, volume, bass, mids, treble and reverb controls with a Rectifier gain mode and a JC120 clean mode.
Rock, Death Metal, sparkling cleans...whatever you want. All at TV volumes and for only $100.

Re: Your favorite practice amp

H&K Tubemeister 18, sounds good on 1w mode low volume, or direct into my computer for headphones or additional eq processing. Bonus: it's loud enough for band rehearsal, and I've played gigs mic'd and unmic'd, and it's small/light enough to take to gigs as a backup

Re: Your favorite practice amp

I don't have a practice amp. I practice on what I play out...Mesa Boogie amps. I spend my time getting great tones from these amps....why fiddle and futz around plugging into a 5-watt SS hunk o' junk?

I realize not everyone can do this for a variety of reasons, but I learned long ago that practice time was best spent on the gear that I was going to be using at the gig.

Re: Your favorite practice amp

I don't gig, and often play at night with wife and little kidlets sleeping a room away. Also, guitar playing time is at a premium for me, because I have other hobbies and interests. So no, I'm not gonna fire up either one of my 100 tube half stacks in order to play for 15 mins before bed, work, supper or during "nap time". That's what my "practice" amp is for...squeezing in playing time, not rehearsing covers for some gig in a dingy sweaty bar.

Roland Microcube. Sounds good enough at low volume and you can play through headphones.

Re: Your favorite practice amp

My practice amp is a Randall WH40 "Dimebag signature". I only use the power amp section of it though in combination with a Zoom G7.1ut that goes to the return of the effects loop. This amp is nothing more than a Randall RG40 with camo tolex and a grill in front of the speaker, and the Celestion Rocket 50 in it sure isn't the best speaker, but I can't part with this little amp.

Re: Your favorite practice amp

If we're talking super low sound, nothing beats The simplicity and convenience of amplitube. If a bit of sound/noise is ok, I cannot recommend the hotone 5w amps enough. The heart attack model I own is amazing...

Re: Your favorite practice amp

I've got a Randall RD5 combo, and I think it's great fun toy for high-gain applications.

A friend has the RD1 head, and it sounds great through his Mesa 1x12.

Re: Your favorite practice amp

Headphone adaptor (Vox Amplug), Phone (Amplitube), Multi-Effects Pedal (Digitech 360), Solid State (Yamaha THR10), Hybrid (Fender Super Champ XD) or Tube (Vox AC10)

Take your pick.

Re: Your favorite practice amp

Bouncing around some but the little Valco-ish/Champ-ish 5 watter is getting a lot of play.
