Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

I voted GHS, but only because SIT isn't on the list. I have their 11 set on my ESP M100, and those things totally blow me away. They've been on it for 6 months (!!!) and have stood up to crazy whammy abuse, tuning changes (going from drop C to standard and back about every other week), and the occasional use of a metal pick. They're not even tarnished, and just now starting to have problems staying in tune. Plus, their factory is in Ohio, so that's cool.

The only edge GHS has for me is that my favorite local shop has every guage they make available in singles, so I can put together my own sets, and he charges the same as buying a standard, off the shelf set.

Dean Markley blue steel's are the one's for me... If only they last longer

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

Errni Balls I've been using them since the 60's I keep trying others but keep coming back to Errni's

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

ernie ball all the way!

i've used GHS, dean markeley(whihc suck IMO), dadarrio, DR. but ernie ball just work for me. the first pack i bought of dean markeley's broke when i was tuning the guitar up, never liked dadarrio's, GHs were al;right but oo metallic sounding, and DR... when i bought the pack of 9's for my charvel it ended up being a set of 10's, so that shows me enough about the company :D
but i'd still like to try teh DR's again cause i never got to use them much.

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

Elixir's are my favorite so i chose other, I dont find them to last that much longer, but they feel alot better to me.

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

i used fender bullets at first..used ernie ball for some time..it was yesterday that i tried d'addarios..absolutely LOVED THEM. i love the clunk on the low strings and punch on the GBE strings..and they stay in tune quite well...

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

You guys do realize that there are only like 3 manufacturers of strings, right? They get packaged under different names and the like, but they're only made by one of about three manufacturers.

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

Ive tried lots of different types, I love Ernie ball strings for my acoustic electric for some reason they bring out the best of that guitar.

And for electric they sound great, its just that I find that they have a tendency to break a bit easy than other brands. I dont like the tone you get from daddarios i find them to bland and plain, compared to ernie balls which i find are more lively sounding. GHS Boomers are quite bright when you first hack into them them and then they lose their brightness after a few hours of playing and start to sound fairly crap. Ernie balls are consistent.

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

I use Elixir Nanoweb 10-46. Tone, Tone, Tone-- is what sells me.

Ernie Ball's didn't seem to last to long (but neither did cryogenic GHS Sub Zero's ), they had a great vintage type tone, but that's not my thing.

Dean Markley sinatures were what I swore by for like 5 years, but then I bought their crap Fretblasters which then reignited my search for string tone. I also used Blue Steel's but, they're hard to bend and feel 'like sandpaper', but have hot projection and high life.

GHS Boomers were almost my string, but were a bit too well rounded in tone, which is not a bad thing, but didn't quite 'spark' my ear. I thought the Sub Zero's would work, but their life wasn't increased (to me) and are too bright.

DR's Hi-Beam's, I think, claimed to produce their goods, but the tone sounded not to my liking... they had an old 'crummy' tone, which for me, outweighed their good.

Tried Everly's, Elixir Polywebs, D'Addario's-- which by the way, methinks, great bright, modern tone for a standard string, but nothing special tonewise, to me at least, but would use them if I had to.

I maybe used others, but if I can't remember 'em, I suppose they're not worth mentioning :).

Waitaminnit... you just wanted to know what string I use... sorry 'bout the rant!

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

I love the feel of D'Addarios. But I just ordered some sets from Webstrings - going to give them a try. Hard to beat the price. :bigthumb:

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

DR's kick ass. Period. I've tried GHS boomers, GHS TNT, Ernie Balls, Dadarios, B52's, and out of all of those the DR are the best. The way I judge stings is by how good thier treble strings sound. If they are thin and weak they suck. DR's just feel right. I had to post this up here since everyone seems to like only EB's and Daddario strings.

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

i use D'Addario (10-52) on my strat mostly but ive tried Ernie ball's 10-52's and they go dead and lose there tone really fast. So i just went back to D'Addario.

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

Elixir .009-.042 on my RG, Elixir .011-.049 on my Affinity Strat, Elixir .010-.046 on the other three electrics.
Elixir .012-.053 on both of my westerns.
Elixir .045-.105 on my P-bass, Elixir .045-.130TW extra long scale on my Yamaha, Rotosound .035-.090 on my Soundgear. That Ibanez almost plays by itself. Rediculously light. My next set of strings will be a heavier one. I use that bass mostly for slapping, and was curious as to how it would work with thinner strings. Well...it sounds thinner too, but it's sooo easy to play! :13:

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

Right now I'm using D'Addario 10's, but I'm probably going to start using Snake Oil Strings again (since I don't change my tunings around much anymore those things last forever).

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

Just strung up my H207 with 10-46 + a 64 on the bottom - a Webstrings set for the top 6 and a D'Addario single for the low B. Loving the Webstrings so far. :D

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

Knucklehead strings, they never wear out for me and can be clean spick n span and look brand new.

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

I would have to say that I have tried many a string brand and then I found, what I cosider, to be the best one. I believe that Elixirs are the alpha and omega when it comes to strings. I mean when everyone reads this people are going to be shaking their heads, but I do believe they have the best feel and tone. While most other strings lose their resonance after just a month, Elixir keeps it for the life of the string. Im not saying that every string made by them is the best because I only perfer the NanoWeb version. Somebody has got to agree with me out there. lol. :reporter:

Re: Your Favourite Guitar String Brand?

I like best the D´addario strings coz the last long enough for me to save for more... i just change from a .10 set to a .11 set and its freaking amazing.
