Your guitar(s) that you miss.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

There are a few I miss.

My Dad's '68 Martin D-18. Given to me as a graduation present in '75; I let a friend wheedle me out of it for next to nothing after months of constant nagging. He never even paid me all the money.

'71 Jazz Bass- made the mistake of lending it and my first SVT to a band called Legs Latreau that my friend knew, for a gig at Max's Kansas City. Never got them back. That's the same friend who conned me out of the Martin, BTW.

'72 LP Custom '54 reissue- really sweet axe with the alnico "staple" neck pickup. Stolen by a junkie we'd allowed to stay over.

'74 Gibson L5-S solidbody. Bought it to replace the LP Custom, sold it in a moment of weakness.

'76 LP Custom, cream turned ivory. I decided I was "done with ebony fretboards." What an idiot.

'79 Heritage Standard-80. Headstock snapped. Never quite the same after being repaired, but it was still better than most. Should've kept it.

'79 LP Std Kalamazoo, cherry sunburst. That one I sold to a close friend. So at least I know it has a good home and I can see it once in a while.

Beginning in '80 I was gigging steadily so after that I was able to keep the really good ones.

It pains me to read that one. I think the best punishment for thieving junkies is to have their mouths biting a curb, with a boot to the back of their head. Nothing more merciful than that.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

A mid-80s Lotus POS. Lost it in the same fire that damaged my Westone. It played like crap, but it was my first electric guitar... wish I still had it for old times sake!

Here it is with a 17-year-old BriGuy in my senior pictures from 1986:

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

.......

Did you ever have a guitar you owned, decided to sell or trade and really miss?

I've one that I screwed it up and made me slap myself whenever I sees it on the rack.

It's an old Made-In-USA 1990 Peavey Predator Ax and it's my first electric guitar. It got a HSS configuration and the bridge humbucker is really two single coils wired in series. There's a switch that you can turn on one or both pickups. This is even before Lace came up with the Dually or Dean Zelinsky sidekick pickups....
The neck is a cross between a C and D profile, oiled finished, super smooth and comfortable.

I tried to re-spray the body but the job was blotched although it still looks nice. The last straw was when I tried to clean the rosewood fretboard with water (OMG!!!) and ended up causing cracks in the neck and its no longer playable now.. :(:sigh:

I tried to re-shape a few Warmoth necks, each time trying to emulate the feel of the old Peavey neck but without success. It now rest in my rack as a sad reminder of my failure.....

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

pair of Harmony H-168's, Hofner 500/4 bass, Ibanez ASB-140S and 72 Tele Deluxe)

I had all these, I remember taking this "family shot" and later that same month, I got laid off (and was out of work for almost the whole next year) and my 2nd child needed heart surgery. I panic-sold all of them (plus my convertible, most of my stereo and music collection, my photo darkroom and film gear...) for way less than I paid for all of it. But we didn't lose the house OR our daughter, so it ended up OK.
Oh, and now I have a Douglas that is nicer than the Ibanez

that was probably made in the same factory that the Ibby was, but cost half as much.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

The only piece of musical stuff that I ever regret getting rid of was my first bass. It was a 1984 Fender Precision in that creamy white color. The only reason I got rid of it is that I had just completely wore it out in about two years, and the neck started twisting or something. I think in around 1986-87 or so I traded it for a Kramer Focus bass or something like that. I actually still own the Kramer. It hangs out in the jam room of my old guitar player from years ago.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

Black Ibanez Artist AR100 from 1980-something. It had the bare slotted stop tailpiece but with no leafy stuff. I traded it for a couple of things that seemed to be necessary and later I traded these other things that seemed so - but really, don't. I should have kept the AR. That was sort of mistake, it was awesome. That was the only guitar gone, later I kept everything that I liked.

And bad mistakes..... Ive made a few..... Ive sold my share of guitars that I regret... Here are a few.......

Don't laugh, but I REALLY regret selling my Black Flame top Epi Ace Frehley... They only made a few in black. I sold it cuz it was light and felt like a toy and thought I needed something more serious.. BUT.. A) it was rare. B) played and sounded GREAT! C) Because it was so light, it would be great for my bad back...

I regret selling my Washburn WM526. revolutionary guitar and the only one in the world done in that paint scheme.

My DOA Black Soltero. Awesome guitar!

And, my LTD EC400ATS. Thought I really needed a 2 vol/2tone knob set up.. Stupid... That thing played amazing and sustained like a beast.

And I could go on and on and on.... I am an idiot... my friends....

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

I really don't regret any that I've sold. I sort of miss the LP Custom, but I didn't play it all that often. I also sort of miss my Charvel 25th Anniversary; that thing was a work of art. OTOH that guitar taught me that I can't stand having only one pickup, so I probably would've routed it for a neck pickup if I'd kept it.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

You'll probably find it funny, but in the summer of 2015 I've bought a Vintage V6 Icon. Owned it for a couple of months and then sold it. And year later I still find myself thinking about it! Had some really nice vibe + it was really solid. I should probably consider buying another one as they're at very reasonable price.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

Way too many...Gibson J45, Gibson AJ, couple Gibson Les Pauls, Jackson SL3 (neck broke by a portly music pastor...not a cool story,) custom Semi-Hollow Strat, lawsuit-era Takamine acoustic, several MIA Fender Strats...

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

'91 Gibson Les Paul Studio, Alpine White w/ebony board. The best LP I've ever laid my hands on.
Traded for a Rick 330 I thought I wanted. It didn't last 6 months before I sold it for something else.

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

The one in my sig line, a 1982 Gibson Les Paul Standard, Cherry Sunburst, serial number 82232531.

I pawned it along with quite a few other valuables when my Dad & I lost our ass at farming, because, well, we needed to eat. Needless to say, I couldn't come up with the money to get out of hock. The lady at the pawn shop claimed that Tim McGraw's lead guitarist at the time (2001) bought it, but I have no idea if that is true or not. But either way, it's the one guitar I would like to get back.

Tell you what.. 2 things... Ive lost a bunch of gear (and ton of $$) in pawns.. So, sorry to hear that. Second... If that is true, that's at least kind of cool, (seems odd she would make that up..) And, if its not true, kinda nice she would at least try to make you feel better about the sitch. AND... If it is true... contact the dude and see if he will sell it back to you...At least you may have a line on where it went..

Re: Your guitar(s) that you miss.

After 50 years of playing guitar and 40 years of buying, trading, fixing and loving all things guitar, I've had quite a large number of guitars come and go. I'll try to keep it short, but hard to! Top 5 electrics I still pine for;

1. 1957 Les Paul Special - My first #1 electric
2. 1981 Ibanez AS-200 - My first semi-hollow and the best.
3. 1967 Gibson ES-335 - Killer guitar, but rent and eating became more important!
4. 1961 Fender Esquire - Only in my hands for a day as I brokered a deal between seller and buyer. Lordy!
5. 1965 National Glenwood - If I knew then what I know now!

Acoustics:
1. 1956 Martin 0-18
2. 70's Washburn Timber Ridge - Amazing solid wood acoustic
3. 64 Gibson LG -
4. Late 60's Lyle - Yes, a Lyle!
5. 70's Washburn Prarie Song - Mahogany version of #1

Thanks.

But she had a very snotty and sarcastic about it. I was so pissed off that I could've bit a nail in two. That guitar meant alot to me, still does, and always will. It holds alot of sentimental value.

ETA: I tried several years ago to get ahold of somebody, anybody about that guitar through Tim McGraw's website, but got no answer. But I suppose they get all sorts of emails like that and they probably just get deleted. I may have to try again one if these days.

Sucks that people act that way... some folks simply have no empathy or people skills! [emoji53]
