Zero Fret Questions

Imperator of Indignation
I have a guitar with a neck with a zero fret. I read that a nut on a zero fret neck is mainly for string routing. Are the slots in the nut supposed to be lower than the zero fret and the strings rest on the zero fret? So the strings break over the zero fret instead of the nut?

The nut behind the zero fret keep them in place, and the slots should be below the zero fret height. The string should break over the zero fret to maintain the correct scale length and intonation.

They have those cool Zero Glide conversion nuts. I always wanted to try one but was afraid of dorking up the install.

They are not cool. They are poorly made, and I refuse to install them for my clients any longer. I offer a much better modification for my clients if they wish to have a zero nut.
