6V6 users...

Re: 6V6 users...

I'm really loving JJ's right now in my Silvertone, great tone and inexpensive.

Re: 6V6 users...

I've gotten so lucky at "finding" 6v6s... Years ago my favorite store had a "private stash" of NOS tubes, and I was in good with the owner. Two NOS RCA 6v6s for $12. I just recently got a matched pair of NOS Sylvanias from my soon to be brother in law for nothing. He also gave me new rectifier tube- I don't know what made more of a difference.

Re: 6V6 users...

I have GE's in my Silverface Fender Princeton and like them alot. It's also got a Mullard GZ-34 rectifier so I am sure that helps too.

Wow! That Gibson is *really* cool! What kind is it?

Re: 6V6 users...

1962 Gibson Falcon. GA 19RVT.

It's actually got some really lush reverb, and I don't use reverb much.

Here's a shot of the back.

+1 on the Brimars. I love those tubes.
I was going to get Brimars for my PR , But $80 for a matched pair? OUCH!:smack: Anybody try the new Tung-sol 6V6's ? We could use a good 6V6 shootout for our vault.:D I had JAN Phillips NOS 6V6's in the PR. They where good solid tubes ,But didn't breakup as creamy as you expect from a 6V6, But overall not a bad tube. This is probably why they can be had for $50 which seems to be the cheapest NOS 6V6. The JJ's are renown for being the best new production glass? I'd love to hear how they stand up with the new
Tung-Sol and TAD offerings?

Re: 6V6 users...

I've got NOS RCA 6V6GTAs in my Fuchs ODS-20.

They ain't cheap....but the tonal difference between them & the stock JJs are truly no comparison AT ALL.

Just smooth creamy goodness like an old fashioned chocolate malt :32:

BTW....the JJs aren't bad either:wink:

Some marry for love, others for money. Dave marries for NOS tubes. I respect that. :)

Re: 6V6 users...

I've heard mixed reviews about JJ tubes. Does anyone have anything bad to say about them? (Not that I'm looking for bad reviews; just want to get a big pictures, since I may retube with JJs at some point.)

Re: 6V6 users...

I've never used the JJ 6V6's, but the first time I retubed my Bandmaster I used all JJ's and will never do it again. Three months in and one of the 6L6's was leaking in oxygen and one of the 12AX7's was SO microphonic that it was making noise IN THE TREMOLO CIRCUT :smack: . So I can't speak for their 6V6's, but the tech at the music store I work at hates them and feels that thet're just the "in" thing right now.

I replaced the 6L6's with SED =C='s and i'm a million times happier.

I've heard the same from others, but I've also heard a lot of happy JJ users. I'm just afraid to retube for fear I'm going to feel I've totally wasted my money. I feel like the only thing that's close to a sure thing is a set of NOS Mullards, which apparently are nigh impossible to find.

Re: 6V6 users...

I really don't "HATE" JJs....they're just O.K. to me.

The pres are a little on the darker side & they just don't do anything in particular for me....nothing separates them from being horrible or fantastic; just O.K.......if that makes sense???!!!

The power tubes...the 6V6s & E34Ls are actually pretty good & the price is certainly right....as are the GZ34s.

The EL84s are a notch above the pres...good, but nothing to write home about. Inexpensive & easy to come by.

That's my .02 atleast :D

Re: 6V6 users...

I've got a JJ in my champ. It is warm and full. I still have the old RCA that was in it. I replaced it simply to have a new tube in there.

I had one high gain graded 12AX7 that got microphonic, but other than that I've had good luck.

I've heard that Bruce at Mission Amps thinks their QC has taken a dive lately.

Re: 6V6 users...

Get your tubes from a reliable vendor that tests your tubes for you. That's a start.

The price of the Brimars were not 80 when I bought them, but they last a long long time. I've had them in and out of several amps. Always great.
