I had to come to terms with it, but I now go direct now with a Line 6 HX stomp with my wedding band, which I use with a few other pedals. I originally got it to replace some other effects on my board, and to add the odd effect that may only be needed for only one song. I originally saw the amp models included as a bonus backup option in case my amp died.
As it turned out, I really loved the amp sounds I could get which was not expected, and after taking time fine tuning it with the band it is now my go-to rig. Monitoring is a dream, the final full sound coming out of our PA is consistent and it sounds good in the context of the wider gig alongside everything else. Loading in/out is also a breeze. Also being able to control multiple parameters with a single button click makes things really easy - and I am that lazy!
I would probably think twice and use my amp if we were not using our own PA system that we have full control over. That said, I do wonder whether using the Line 6 into a cab via an SD Powerstage amp may be equally as good as plugging in direct.
Don't get me wrong, it goes without saying my Mesa combo is hands down better, but I was surprised how good the modelling is - and the audience do not care.
If I was starting from scratch I would probably go for the larger floor board now, but the HX direct with a few other pedals does the job.
