An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

So I did a relic job on this using my entire front porch and a pair of pliers.

What? It's a relic job I did myself. I wanted that feel that it's got a few miles on the body as the neck has a lot of playing wear on it, it sounds very fuzzed out when distorted through a good 100 watt amp, and the neck pickup doesn't feed back like my Squier's one does.

You butchered it. I bet with a nice polish and some TLC it could have been a really decent cheap strat copy.

Eh, I get the beaters just to learn. The tuners are garbage so I thought I'd make the paint a little less pristine. I'm going to drop the cash on a new bridge since the old one is un-intonationable, as the saddle on the A string won't adjust, then I'm going to buy a pickguard off eBay and change this thing to HH and a 3 way. That is going to be one hell of a project. A relic HH Strat.

Oh sorry my mistake it looks really great and i imagine you learned some valuable lessons.

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

Usually the most valuable lesson is not to try relicing again, especially with poly.

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

Poly is the *****iest thing to relic, anyway I did want a unique relic job, and I achieved that. It's relic'd in the most unusual of places and now it's going to get a new bridge because the old one is rubbish and new tuners, and possibly some Seymour Duncan lovin..

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

The Samick strats are 7/8 size
The standard strat sized pickguard won't fit
If you whittle on it the pickup routes may not line up

Be advised

Remove ALL the poly.

Repaint it flat black.

THEN relic.

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

Use a screwdriver and a hammer for best effect

You can also fake bullet holes in it with a drill . Just chisel the exit hole to simulate the bullet leaving

Make it look like that TV or typewriter. Those are relics.

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

I think it needs more distressing. Currently, it looks like a newer guitar that was used to beat up a drummer.

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

If the relic job etc on this guitar is all about learning then here is what i would recommend:
i think the whole thing needs a serious going over with paint stripper.
Then oil the neck. Sand, fill and paint the body whatever colour you like, nice and thin and then beat it up.
If this is all about learning how to do it, you will learn heaps that way.
If the paintjob is a disaster, no worries! Strip it and start again!
You can use car paint or whatever you can find at bunnings. Or for a few more bucks once you have done a couple trial runs, you can also buy nitro in a can from a company called "reranch".

Just what did that guitar do to you that you thought it deserved that? Did it call you a mud muncher or something? Relicing is one thing.... but not this.. this is more like... defacing.

I guess if you are after the juvenile look you hit it on the head. Might as well scratch a big hairy phallus on it for good measure.
