An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

i agree how could you learn by doing that? I know tie the body to the basket on your bike and drag it along.

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

If the relic job etc on this guitar is all about learning then here is what i would recommend:
i think the whole thing needs a serious going over with paint stripper.
Then oil the neck. Sand, fill and paint the body whatever colour you like, nice and thin and then beat it up.
If this is all about learning how to do it, you will learn heaps that way.
If the paintjob is a disaster, no worries! Strip it and start again!
You can use car paint or whatever you can find at bunnings. Or for a few more bucks once you have done a couple trial runs, you can also buy nitro in a can from a company called "reranch".

+1 to this. Here is what a guitar looks like after 7 years of actual playing on a thin finish:

Take the body off the neck, then run it through the dryer with a few charcoal brickets. Or maybe some broken glass.

Hahahhahahah what a racket that would make....

Then he needs to post a video of his mum the next time she opens the dryer.

I want to see this. Make it happen Nathan!

Yeah Nathan dynamite. Make sure you film it...gosh.

Use a screwdriver and a hammer for best effect

You can also fake bullet holes in it with a drill . Just chisel the exit hole to simulate the bullet leaving

Excellent idea. Ship it to me. I'll relic it up real nice, with genuine projectile holes. I'll even pay return shipping just for the fun I'd have. :)

ps. Send it before the new bridge install. I can't guarantee no flyers.

You guys don't like it but he does... what's the big deal? It's not like he did it to his dad's guitar (or any valuable guitar) either.

OP: as long as you play it like hell now it's all good to me.

Beat me to it Bro! I am really not into the relic thing, but he is happy with it and feels he learned something from the experience, then more power to him.

Re: An update on the Samick Strat copy. WARNING: Contains homemade relic job.

Just put self-stick sand paper on your arms and palms. Use 400-600 for a few weeks.
Accelerated "relicing" in the right places. Then rub some grimy sh#t over it and pose away.

Pray tell just what would he have learned doing this? That pliers can gouge wood? That dragging a guitar across the porch will scratch it? If he likes it fine. I defaced enough stuff as a kid (luckily never turned my attention to one of my guitars) But that doesnt mean he deserves a pat on the back. Its not like hes a toddler that we have to cheer on "Yayyy you made a pewpie on the pawty!!!" to bolster his confidence and I sure as hell dont have to condone his behavior.

Man, you really are taking that thing seriously are you? It's a guitar, it's not yours, what's the big effin' deal? Why are you (and not just you btw) so disrespectful towards this guy who scratched the paint off a guitar? Seriously? I really don't get it.

I will definitely vouch for Kramersteen that this is just humor. I personally love a well done relic job. I know people who don't and respect that–everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. In this case, look through a fraction of Kramersteen's 7,500+ posts and you will see that he is not being disrespectful to the dude...

The guy did something juvenile so I feel that goofing on him a bit is about the appropriate level of response. I dont see anyone running him down. I see guys joshing and poking fun.

If we want to get serious it wouldnt be hard to make a case that cheap guitar or not, the lack of respect he has shown towards his possessions would indicate a general lack of respect in other areas as well.

But that wasnt so much the point.

Though it does make me wonder why does me expressing my opinion that I find his antics juvenile ruffle your feathers? He posts it for us looking for affirmation and we must give it? even if we dont approve?

I am much more concerned with the under tone that some give here that we must somehow pat him on his back for his effort to "learn" What can be learned by dragging something across a porch?

If he truly wanted to learn relicing this isnt the way to go about it.

Hurt my feelings? Not at all, doesn't mean I have to agree with the tone this is taking though.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt but the reply below still doesn't strike me as an "haha" thing...

I have absolutely no problem with you stating your opinion, just like I expressed mine. However, the potty thing makes me think this is more than just humour or even stating your opinion, this reads as more, as being rough on the kid for no reason IMO and piling your "humour" [thank god you're there to protect the honour of all the mistreated guitars out there]... you disapprove? Fine, I'm pretty sure he got the message the first time around. Still, it's not the first time that your writing I perceive as rash and unnecessarily rough towards others when there's no reason for it. But that again is an opinion of course so who cares?
