are all pickup mounting rings the same size?

Re: are all pickup mounting rings the same size?

In the mid-80's - coinciding with the raised logo covered Jackson pickups (commonly known as wide-body) - Charvel/Jackson sourced special pickup rings to accomodate their wider pickups. These have a different footprint, than say, the standard sized rings you get with a Duncan humbucker.

The Charvel ones that I have are of exactly the same footprint as the surrounds supplied with Duncan Trembuckers. The one difference is that the Charvels are cut to match the neck pitch angle for a Kahler flamount vibrato.

I suspect that the problem I have is US rings on a Japanese body. The fastening screw holes in the corners do not even remotely line up with the holes in the guitar top.

I'd really like some cream rings on that thing.

look like this, kinda.

cool, I'm guessing my Fender is metric..
Best to check on that.

My Squier is imperial.

My understanding was that anything built for the US market was typically imperial. For anywhere else it's metric.

Although, my '91 Ibanez is metric, my Epi is metric, but my Squiers are imperial.

I'm pretty sure DiMarzio makes their stuff in imperial.

CTS pots are imperial - I had to replace my knobs on my Epi when I switched to CTS pots, not to mention drill out the holes a little bigger.

... Damn, those Jags are sexy. Black and chrome in all the right places.

the way i always saw it, the ring sizes are the same, but like someone said the screws are the things that are different. Import guitars are sometimes inconsistent with the screw distances so you could end up having to stretch a pickup ring so that the screw holes line up.
