Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

I'm not what I'd call a bass player but I have one and it's great. I have it for my own ends.[ recording mainly ]
IMG_0170.jpg

It's a Steinberg with the carbon fibre neck and active pups. It was bargain priced when I found it. My neighbour [ who is more recently passed away ] was a very good fitter and turner and made me a set of string saddles out of a heavier and stronger metal. These replaced the original ones , two of which had died [ tore open ] because the "metal" they were originally made of was too weak:14:

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

Hey nice rig set up.....how do you like the Phil Jones? I heard one being played thru at Bass Central a few weeks back, it sounded tough as $h*t.

Hey, yeah the Phil Jones is a monster of a little amp. Ok so it's not physical punch that you get with a BIG amp and BIG speakers, but what you do get is a very professional sounding amp that has a D.I out and built in compression. It's ideal for me because my Yam Electro 6 string sounds fantastic through it too. And, if you wanted to take it to mates BBQ's etc/ garden parties, you can buy a 12 volt battery that fits into the cabinet! Through the Eden cab it was awesome... maybe loud enough for a very small venue.

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

My bass (pretty much only used for recording, but works well at that) is one of these Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Basses:

It's great playing . . . the 'Duncan Designed' pickups sound decent too.

I really considering get a Phil Jones, like I said I think they are tough as $h*t, lot of power from that small package

I really want a EBMM, I want the new Classic StingRay 2010......But I'm sure the old lady would shoot me...so for now I will bid my time and plan....lol
How do you like the Redeye?

Black '74 Precision, shaved frets and refinished neck,
modified with Wilkinson 5-string kit
(bridge, 5-slot graphite nut and string tree holding the D).
This is the first bass I ever bought.

'77 Gibson Les Paul Triumph (my main)

'03 MIM Jazz (stock); Xmas gift. It's a bar-band beater, but it works

a closer look at the Wilkinson bridge

Ampeg BA-112, with hi/mid/low tone, direct and headphone outs, and
5-position mid center frequency varitone switch; swapped the factory
speaker for an Eminence 12" with a whizzer cone... cleaner highs.
It's a US made St. Louis Music model, before they went to Asia.

(Google screen grab)

My big rig was a mid-70's SVT head through an Acoustic Control 106,
twin 15's with aluminum dust caps. A beast. No car to haul it these days, so I sold it.
When I make the chedda, I'm looking for a 4-10 with maybe a solid state 300+ watts/4Ω.

Dude, what can I say.....I want your 77' Gibson and the 74' P bass. Your stuff is right on. I think I saw a Triumph at Bass Central about 6-7 years ago, but none since.

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

oopsies, I shoulda said I put teh ole gibson sticker on it to fool my buddies

I love it, bought it for $200 out of a dude's garage, and it gets tons o compliments cause of the sticker and the amp is line 6 which gets killer growl lol...its awesome cause I step on the pedal to change to heavy metal and man I get alot of attention as a bassist cause of the look and the line 6 sound thru that 410

I really really like the redeye. It gives me just this great, fat tone and it really sits well in the mix. On top of that, it's got a ton of flexibility of tone. I've never had a single complaint about the sound and it's always very reliable.

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

also I gotta say that ampeg 410 is a real "buster", it weighs 80 lbs. too much for me. 40lbs for each arm aint bad, but its so bulky that it puts stress on my back that I dont like since Im not a weightlifter. anyway Im keeping the 410 but hope gallien comes out with that ultralightweight 410 that weighs 40lbs! I need 4ohm cause those are super loud for my amps.

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

Ha ha... I just found a pic of my old ridiculous stack... Ashdown SuperFly, Eden 2 x 10. Ampeg 4 x 10 and 1 x 15.... from that to the Phil Jones eh? Lol....
DSC00221.jpg

But these were the heaviest S.O.B's ever... they used to be owned by Maidens Bass player too!

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

those r sum REAL 'busters' lol! if roadies and nice casters are there, then fine; but if not, well, that might be a real sacrifice!! :)

My humble rig and basses. The Jackson Concert EX is the latest acquisition just a couple of months ago. I've had the Rickenbacker since 1985.

Closeups of the one in the middle.

Despite its body shape, it sounds nothing like a P bass. It's very deep, with lots of fundamental, few mids and clear high end.
The Peavey Fury (red one) sounds like an old classic P bass.

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

Sweet basses, I like them all......do you have a favorite? I really like the Bassstar, nice grain...

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

The Rick is obviously the one for the Rick tone. I'm using it to record bass parts for some prog rock tunes I wrote.
For blues and hard rock, the Peavey is my favorite. Classic P bass tone and the neck feels great. It's slim like some Fender Jazz basses I've tried.
I use the Hamer fretless on some of my prog rock and ambient pieces. It's nice, but I think a Pedulla would do the job better.
If you saw the thread I put up last night, I have my eye on a Parker USA Fly bass hanging in a shop a couple miles from my house. I don't think I can justify the price, but it sure is nice.

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

Sorry about the bad quality photos but here are my Carvin LB70, Carvin B4 (built myself from a kit), and Squier Precision Special (P/J config - upgraded w/Fender '62 P and Duncan Vintage J pickups). The amps are Yorkville Bassmaster 400 1X15" and Carvin BR510N 2X10" combos. The pedals you see with the Carvin amp are Boss TU-2 tuner and Boss Bass Chorus.

Re: Bass Players Unite show your Gear!

Great job on the Carvin, when ever I get a Carvin catalog I always find my way to that page. And wonder how it would sound......so how does it sound lol!
