So boys, which is it?

I'm talking about the classic LP colors here. Not special edition, not custom jobs, or even Les Paul Customs. I'm talking about the colors that have always been around, and that should always be when it comes to this iconic instrument. So please note that we are assuming the guitar is equipped with humbuckers, and doesn't have gold hardware or soapbars. Chrome or nickel only. Sorry, no white, that belongs to the Custom. Oh, and we are going rosewood fretboard, with binding on the neck, and on the body. Pickguard or no pickguard, that's your call really, lol.

You know what I'm saying, a Standard.

What's your preference, if you stood in a shop, cash in hand, with one of each, which sounded and felt the same?

Lol, my bad, was uploading the pictures and perfecting the poll.

****! Forgot Amber in there.... that's always a wicked color!

What is this supposed to be? :

That, however, I seriously doubt if given the choice I'd go for a classic color.
Those that saw my NGD will know what color I'd go for.
For the rest... :

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

Keeper, that first pic looks like a really well aged Cherry Sunburst to me...

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

If none of the tops were flamed then I'd most likely get a goldtop with the ebony in 2nd place. If the tops on the others were flamed out then it would be a hard choice.

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

If it was open to guitars with soapbars, I'd say goldtop. With humbuckers, honeyburst.

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

Most classic is prolly gonna be heritage cherry or something. My favs are Wine red, ebony and gold top tho.

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

I remember I was 8 or 9 or something and I saw a picture of somebody holding a wine red LP and thinking "Wow that's pretty...".

If I ever have a Les Paul, it's gonna be a wine red one. To me it's just the ultimate everything, it's the dream.

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

Tobacco Burst/Desert Burst is so rock 'n roll.... the darker, the better.... NO RED in there though!

The extra redish Heritage Cherry... not the one you have pictured, but the REALLY red to REALLY ugly yellow should be banned, it's the worst!

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

Of those choices, I gotta go Gold. But then, I just don't like bursts, black or red very much. Has always kinda limited my Gibson color choices.

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

Ebony with zebra humbuckers...

Also, where is vintage sunburst? I thought that color was only available on LP Classics. I would be torn between these two but probably go with the vintage SB.

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

They are all great. But I choose Honeyburst, although i love cherryburst as much, cause on a 59-60, thy were mostly Cherrys thats faded into a honey , if i am not mistaken. On modern honeys, you will see no cherry, but you may find traces of the cherry on an old honeburst vintage Les Paul.

I like 'em all. This is splitting hairs for me.

Re: Best "classic" Les Paul color?

If Heritage Cherry always looked like your pic, I'd choose that color. Unfortunately, a lot of them look more like clown bursts with WAYYYY too much red and not a smooth enough transition. I also like Desert Burst, but not if the dark is TOO dark and not if the whole upper bout is nearly blacked out. I would normally then choose Honey burst, but the color you posted seems too light for my taste....so Iced Tea is just right to me, again, based on your pics.

So, my pick for this poll, based on your pics......Heritage Cherry. Otherwise, I prefer either the way the Desert Burst or Honey Burst looks best.

If I were not to use the pics you posted and have to try and describe my preferred color....it would most likely be the Iced Tea Burst followed by the Desert Burst.
