Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Yeah, BloodRose is right one that one, their finishes make them look to plasticy, not as raw as say Nitro.

Still, it seems it's only a matter of appearance cause these things resonate like crazy!

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

What's coming out next (Les Paul) "Closet Relics"?

No, I don't mean Theodie!

Yes! Something in the vein of the Yamaha SG's.
And I don't hate innovation. I just hate laziness. The burst in the Gibson with the floyd doesn't work. Something like that see-thru black and black plastics would be great. I could even buy one if I'd ever need a FR guitar and had the money.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

For a fraction of the price. Mahogany body and neck, maple top, abalone inlays, Floyd rose 1000 series, set neck.

Beg to differ. Dean had a Czech Evo out loaded with PG's and had a killer joint with pretty woods. Find one used.

Any setneck Czech Dean is worth it. The build quality rivals any US made guitar

I am partial to the ECS Korina V's. Alas, both of these are since gone. The amber to BTMN and the blonde to BRG Steve but I am planning on getting another soon

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

I hope Edwards would go for a Floyded Les Paul... I have a feeling that they would get it right.

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Since LTD has I'm 99% sure that they have as well (being the same company and all).

BTW, I also have the very intense impression that they'd get it right as well :)

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

The Les Paul Axcess Standard from Gibson Custom carries all the elegant styling, fluid body lines and rocking attitude of a classic Les Paul Standard from the golden era of the late 1950s.

did they get poochy from the simpsons to write this copy??

Re: Blasphemy ! Gibson did it again

Thousands less with the Contoured Neck???

Please tell me where!

Ebay. I bought a "used" spotless Les Paul Axcess for $2400 which is what they go for used on eBay - $2300-2600 range. I was watching for a few months to see what they were going for and finally snagged one that might as well as been shipped from the factory. It still had the nylon zip stripped Custom Shop tag on the case, all the swag and goodies still sealed in the factory bag... not one scratch anywhere on the guitar. There have been maybe 5 or 6 or so used ones a month on eBay the last three or four months. And because they haven't been out that long (a year or so?), none of them are likely to be trashed--none that I've seen so far on eBay were anything but in excellent condition. It's not "thousands" less, but about $600-1000 less then what they are going for new and less then half of the so called "MSRP."

^ so what's your verdict on it?

At the moment, a Floyded LP would make me uber-happy.

I was first surprised at how light it is -- it's lighter then my '87 Les Paul Custom Lite which is a thinner Les Paul Custom that was made for about a year or two in 87-88. My Custom Lite also has a "belly cut" so it's not a new idea that just came out with the Axcess.

The one I have is an Iced Tea flame top. It's a quality guitar but as is usually that case with any guitar I've owned, I'm not satisfied with the pickups -- in this case, both in terms of cosmetics and tone. I will likely swap them out and with either creme ribbons or nickel covers (not into the black ribbon/burst finish color scheme). The OEM pickup tone is decent but not quite up to par with my personal perferences. I'm sure some would be prefectly happy to leave them as is. Other than that, I'm really happy with it. It's definitely Custom Shop quality, the neck is more along the lines of the 60's profile neck which is good (I hate the "baseball bat" 50's necks). The feel of the Floyd is nice. With most Floyds that came factory on my guitars, I've had to take out a spring or two to soften the feel but I think I'll probably leave this Floyd set up as is. It's just a hair stiffer then the Floyds on my two Strats which have 2 of the five springs removed. I haven't yet taken the cover off to see how many springs are installed.

All in all, it's nice guitar. As far as I'm concerned, the only way to go is to by one off Ebay from a seller with 100% postive feedback, has good pics and will answer all your questions. Some people may not want to buy online--may want to play the guitar first in person but I've bought several guitars off Ebay over the years and they have been some of the best guitars I've ever had. Just know what you are buying, ask lots of questions, only buy from a reputable seller. If you don't like it, you are likely to be able to sell it on Ebay for about what you paid since mainstream guitars like Gibson Les Pauls go for fairly consistant prices--at least from my experience.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I like it. I now there are plenty of people out there that have wanted a Gibson with a stable trem system. Now they have it. Gibson's track record has not been good with newer models from the past few years, but this is actually a good idea and one that I've always thought was long overdue. Kudos to Gibson!
