Clean Boost Question

Re: Clean Boost Question

I agree with D1dsj's assessment of the Micro Amp and GE-7 usages.

As for the Xotic pedals, RC is cleanest, AC is a medium OD pedal (IMO) and BB has the most gain of the bunch, but not as much as say a CrunchBox though. The AC with the gain all the way down will function as a clean boost but it still colors the sound. Clean boost isn't what it is best suited to.

Re: Clean Boost Question

I use an MXR micro amp into ther effects loop of my Cornfords, and I get a great solo boost that doesn't seem to colour the sound in any way... just louder whether it is clean or driven. I wanted a Keeley Java boost to go with my Fuzz head and Compressor, but they aren't cheap. I think the MXR would be a good pedal to try, but as the other guys on here say... if you put it into the front of the amp you will get more gain because the valves (assuming it's a valve amp?) are being pushed harder. It made a massiver difference to my lead volume. All the best.

I was looking into the micro amp and was wondering if i don't put in the effects loop, but after dist. pedals into a clean amp, can i still get a good volume boost even though there might be a little added distortion? Or must it go in the loop?

I'd rather not have to put it in the loop if i can avoid it because it would be kind of a pain as my effects loop i very simplistic. I'm trying to keep setup time down but i'll do what i must.

Re: Clean Boost Question

I'm suprised no one has brought up the Banzai Cold Fusion I and II. There was a thread about them last month and it sound like a great pedal, as soon as recover from my recent purchases I'm getting one.

Re: Clean Boost Question

I had another question about clean boosts. I tried putting a distortion pedal after another distortion pedal, turning the gain down and volume up and using this as a boost, but is sounds kinda wierd like it cant handle both units and the distortion kindof cuts in and out a little. Has anyone else expieriened this and do clean boost have this same effect?

Chriss Oliva of Savatage did the same thing only with the Tone knob, you just have swap them if you wanna boost the distortion with distortion boost it before not after.
