Convince me as to why I should or why I shouldn't get a shredstick...

Re: Convince me as to why I should or why I shouldn't get a shredstick...

I just wish most companies had better CS. Like small shops and stuff. For example, Duncan, while they seem to NEVER answer my e-mails, the few times they do they are super nice.

I still remember Diocletian asked the boys and girls at Duncan about the chrome Allen polepieces on Brian Haner, Jr's (Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold) custom Invaders and they actually sent him a set of those polepieces, free of charge.

I tried so hard to get a set of Zero Resistance studs and locking nut neck screws from Ibanez and nobody helped out.

I guess it just comes with the territory of dealing with a big company.

It seems Duncan and DiMarzio, since they're smaller than say Ibanez, do have a pretty good customer service. I don't know if it's still the case but I remember hearing lots of people sending e-mails to DiMarzio and getting personal responses from DiMarzio daddy-o Steve Blucher himself. That's pretty cool.

I've e-mailed DiMarzio twice with questions, and both times Steve Blucher responded. This is the guy Malmsteen thanks in the liner notes, along with Paganini, Hendrix, Lovecraft, etc. Both times Steve was very prompt and friendly and gave me helpful answers.

I guess it's easier to remember the times when customer service isn't so good. I'm going through something over an aftermarket bridge right now. Whatever. It'll get sorted.

The problem, I think is that a lot of companies have a mentality where once the product is sold they wash their hands. Obviously, the good ones think NOTHING like that. That kind of mentality will not yield returning customers. I'm not talking guitars though, I mean in general.

I don't particularly find the small shop stuff to be as good as the price premium charged most of the times, but I think the customer service is kinda worth it. I remember when I ordered my Kleins for my Strat and got them I had some questions and Chris Klein was super cool about everything, gave me everything I ever needed to know regarding the construction and materials of the pickups I bought from him. Also, during ordering he gave me tons of tone tips for what to look for in pickups and what variations in material in the slightest would yield variations in tone. Wire, bobbin, magnet, wind pattern, etc. Every little detail.

I had never been treated so well by a seller/manufacturer/etc ever. I'm not plugging him though, I'm just giving an example of making your customer feel like gold. Edit: I should add, he doesn't charge premiums for his stuff but I'm just saying that small shop service in general does cost more.

I just wish the people at McDonald's would get it when I order a burger without onions or pickles for my little brother and not mess up the order, and when I tell them they messed it up to not look at me like they're going to kill me!

Oh, another story. I once asked Washburn about a guitar I had. I gave them the serial number and they just replied telling me what year it was....which I already knew. I inquired about the model name. They didn't know or didn't want to tell me because I never heard back!

At the end of the day, shred is about your chops, not the guitar.

And I think those Ibby's are pretty awesome all around axes. Classic builds, cool electronics, you could play anything on them - if you can play it.
