CTN builds a Star

Re: CTN builds a Star

never worked with spray on urethane before, but I'll take your word for it.

In other news, new decal has been ordered.

Re: CTN builds a Star

I tried that already, and that last pic is what happened. I'm done trying to touch up mistakes. I'm just gonna level it/take off what I need to, and start fresh so it's perfect.

Re: CTN builds a Star

update time.

The lacquer on the body is done, and it's curing away. I'll get back to that in a couple weeks. Haven't gotten the decal in yet. Soon though.

In the meantime, I'm making progress on the case. I don't think I posted this pic when I took it, but this was from the last time I posted pics of it:

Made a couple of tiny modifications - cut some more foam pieces, reshaped the neck support and added a little compartment to keep random crap in. I've put the hinges on for the compartment but haven't gotten around to doing the lid yet. But I did glue up the masonite outer faces and this is what it looks like now.

It weighs in at about 14 lbs right now, which isn't toooo bad. It's at least in the same ballpark weight as other large/odd shaped guitar hardcases I've seen, so that's good - It's not gonna be a monster 30lb case (unlike a lot of other home-made cases I've seen around the web, where people have used thick sheets of plywood for the frame and outer faces).

Next steps:
-glue on the tolex
-make the lid for the compartment
-fit all the external hardware
-glue the soft lining material in

I think I'm gonna hold off on the installation of the handle until the guitar is reassembled because then I can find the right place to put it so the case balances properly when the guitar is inside.

Yay, this thread's alive!

That's a good idea. Have you ever lugged a Charvel in a chainsaw case by any chance?

Re: CTN builds a Star

New decal arrived and has been applied. It's drying now.

Currently working on the tolex.

Re: CTN builds a Star

The tolex is coming along nicely. But I ran out of glue. Gonna get a bunch more which I'll also need for the fabric inside the case.

Re: CTN builds a Star

tolex on the bottom half of the case is nearly done. Gonna start the top half tomorrow.

Just misted lacquer on the headstock after leaving the decal to dry two days.

Also got most of the other crap I needed for the case, with the exception of rivets. Hard to find the size I need. I'm hoping good ol' canuck tire will have them. If not, then i'll have to get em elsewhere.

Re: CTN builds a Star

been kinda busy lately with work, life etc. I gotta wetsand + buff the body and neck and reassemble.

Case is almost done. Couple more days and it will be. Also gotta paint the logo on the case.
