Custom 8 paradise!

Re: Custom 8 paradise!

Is it still good for Thrash? Super tight and chugga chugga without a damn cocked-wah?

Absolutely. I think it's perfect for that. Really punchy in the mids, but the bass is tight, and the top end is present but not overbearing.

Re: Custom 8 paradise!

Totally true, man. Personally I generally hate clean tones from a bridge pickup and very rarely use them but lately I've been using the C8 for clean more and more. It's really warm and it's never too brittle and ice-picky.

Also true about the versatility. Every time I try it with different EQ and amounts of gain I think I've found the perfect settings for it. Then I roll off the gain and hear it sing on some old Zeppelin licks and love that tone just as much. Crank it up and start firing out powerchords and punk rhythms and hear that roar and never want to turn the gain down again. It's the most responsive damn thing I've ever played/felt in my life.

It's truly an outstanding pickup.

Cool. If it handles different gain structures well it should shine with all 3 of my Mesa MK III's channels... for example, seems my middle "crunch" channel likes the ceramic custom a little more than the CC....But cleans are better w/the CC IMO....:scratchch

Re: Custom 8 paradise!

It is done! After much delay I finally put in the A8. I won't bore you with the tonal differences between Custom5 Custom8, it has already been described much better by others. Output wise it is slightly louder, which is okay, still doesn't overpower my 59A4. The Custom8 is a definitely a keeper, much tighter than the Custom5, great for metal and anything really.

Here's an interesting observation though. Another forum member actually mentioned this too I think. If you go parallel (i have triple shots) it sounds like a Custom5 again! Lower output of course but more open, slightly scooped, better cleans, etc. What a bonus, I've got a Custom8 and Custom5 at the flip of a switch! I'm sure many would disagree on this but that is what my ears are hearing. Custom8 rules!!!:headbang:

You, sir, have great ears and impeccable taste.

You've been selling the Lt. Kojak set pretty hard, I had a feeling I would end up with these mags. Here are some sloppy riffs I recorded with a cheap mic, and it's only right channel for some reason. Still trying to figure out my whole recording setup but considering the limitations it sounds pretty sweet, check out the Custom 8 riffage.

Thanks, I'm shopping for a shure sm57 and with just a few minutes of tinkering I'm sure I can figure out the stereo panning issue, I'm using Sonar 8. Finally have a band assembled so I'm going to focus on writing and try to stop switching mags so much, I'm pretty satisfied with this set. Easier said than done though.

Edit: see my post on "Tips & Clips" to help me with recording, thanks!

I hate heavy metal, but I play classic rock, Rock, hard rock, grunge and alt rock. Would the C8 work?

Re: Custom 8 paradise!

I have to get one of these or rather build one.
