Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

Hey guys.

I've always been a fan of Dean Cadillac guitars and I have an opportunity to get a neck-thru (apparently) Silver Burst MIK (I think) model for around £270.

Just wondered if anyone here owns 1 or can give me any pointers etc on these guitars before I decide wether to buy it or not.

Thanks.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

I was never really a fan even when Kerry Livgren and Rich Williams of Kansas were using them. I do like the new smaller headstock though.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

is it just me or are those bc rich humbuckers

Yeah they are.

They're an 'upgrade' apparently. Either way, if I get the guitar I'll be swapping the pickups anyway :)

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

I love Caddys. I have a bunch of them. I dont have any MIKs but that one looks nice. If it plays well and you like it, go for it. I like that shrimpy!

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

I'm also trying to find a Caddy in stores. I think it's a very cool shape, like a mix between an LP and an Explorer. The big headstock works well with the shape, I think. I guess I'm just posting to keep this alive and to generate more responses.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

That actually looks like a early 90's Tropical era Dean Caddy. 24 frets and that headstock logo tell me that. If it plays good, that is all that matters. Isn't that about $550? I wouldn't go for that price but YMMV. If so that is definatly top price for that. I would look for a Caddy Select from the Czech made era. MUCH better around the same price.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

Always thought they looked cool but never played one. That new smaller headstock is fugly though....I like the old/larger one much better.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

I love mine - got it off the bay for 299! Great guitar. PG/Custom now...IR ROCKS. I don't dig the little headstock. It's just not "dean" enough.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

Thats not the "new" headstock per-se. Thats the "shrimpfork" they used for about 10 years or so from around 83 on.

I never could bond with that shape (I like pointy..I like Les Paul, don't like the mutt :laugh2:), but the 2 recent MIK's I played were stellar values for the money.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

I like them a lot! I recently sold my '02 USA built Cadillac. My current version is a 1979 Dean E'lite. I consider this guitar to be better than any Les Paul or PRS ever built.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

Thank you, Jay! It's one of the best playing set neck guitars I've ever played.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

I hate the way the Cadillacs look, but one of those Vendetta Floyds is something I would like to get my hands on.

Re: Dean Cadillac - Anyone like them?

You silly vintage Dean lovers... I'd love to have an old E'Lite! Those are killer guitars!

I'm a member of a strange & peculiar sect that believes that the Les Paul was divinely inspired, and that mere mortals should not modify or otherwise aldulterate the design (tinker with the electronics yes; body design no). Blasphemy!
